ok the prado i am talking about is the gen 1 prado it has nothing in common with the current or other offerings
it is just a long wheel base bundy it looks like the new 70 series wagon behind the front doors

I think where defiantly gunna go the Bundy...
There's a bloke on Ebay wrecking his out, we sent him an email
earlier to see how much he wanted for the Chassis ect.
And if its do able i would really like to go the SR20DET engine.
Or another Turbo engine that would fit and carry the car without
troubles.. :P

if you go the bundy the 3sge or 3sgte engine would be more suitable than SR20

i have done a few of the 3s and 3sgte conversions into north south format
i will be in brizzy from time to time over the next year its basically a bolt in with the right selection of parts

if i were you i would get a gen 3 or gen 4 3sgte the gen4 is the most powerfull (200 kw std)and normally comes with an auto which is no drama cause you dont want the box anyway
there are a few tricks to putting them in all from toyota parts bin you just need to know what to buy and from what model
the only things you will need fabricated is a flywheel and chassis engine mounts and perhaps a manifold depending on under bonnet space i can make these or if too busy direct you to some one who can


i can do the wiring for you as well that is a sideline business of mine
if you want info u can pm me on my availabilty

just so you can put a picture with the engine

this is one of the conversions i did to one of my own road cars that i have in brisbane
my 77 celica its a 97 3sgte gen 3 i made the manifolds and stuff myself all will be basically the same as what you need to do
you use the same bellhousing etc to bolt to the bundy gearbox and transfer

another vote for the bundy chassis!

the wheel track of the trol is too wide and will involve either huge flairs, or pumped guards and huge flairs, both of which would be expensive if ever damaged offroad. plus could be so wide compared to the body it would look wierd.

the bundy is still wider but not as wide as the trol.

note the picture of the other rav on a trol chassis had narrowed diffs.

From what i know its easier to engineer like branded bodies / eng / chassis etc. though it probably wont make much difference in this case, but i would stick with yota gear.

one of the benefits of small cars is that they are smaller and lighter. so go with that. The yota combos are going to achieve that hands down.

the patrol will need a bigger donk which is hard to fit in the rav eng bay.

I had a lux with the rb 30 in it and would say its way to long for the rav. it was too long for the hilux and required the radiator to be in the tray.

Cool idea, think it could be wicked! I just hope your small budget ( though it depends what you call small) is enough as a huge amount of this car will be custom, and its amasing how much it adds up even when you use your own time, stuff which seams to be minor in the scheme of things could cost thousands.

on top of the value of your car as it I would expect to spend another 20 grand.

It always amases me what we end up spending on 'straight forward' :roll: jobs :lol: .

I'll throw in another vote for the bundy chassis and diffs etc for lightness.

I would look at longer suspension links and relocating coil hats etc rather than lengthening the chassis, it will improve offroad capability with minimal impact on road manners.

1UZ is an alloy v8 made by Toyota and used in Lexus and Toyota models. Light weight, compact, plenty of grunt and toyota built.

Only advantage of Patrol running gear is its reputaion for strength, but Toyota diffs can be beefed up with ARB difflocks, aftermarket axles and CV's if you get really serious off road, as you would most likely fit diff locks in patrol diffs, there is no advantage to using patrol diffs IMO

I agree with Hanko, I hope your 'small' budget is pretty big, I see this getting expensive quickly even if you have people who can do lots of the work for you.

is the rav master cylinder going to be ok for the rear drum set up and are the bundy brakes going to be able to stop a more powerful engine.
that is the other bonus with the gq they come out disc at the rear for better braking(petrol gq)

One thing that has not been said is the brakes
is the rav master cylinder going to be ok for the rear drum set up and are the bundy brakes going to be able to stop a more powerful engine.
that is the other bonus with the gq they come out disc at the rear for better braking(petrol gq)

If using the bundy chassis it would be a good conversion and reasonably easy to get 70 series diffs, that way you have big brakes on the front, and discs on the rear.

If the patrol diffs are used there is all sorts of issues with the rear diff being central and using a off set transfer case, especially in a short wheel base vehicle....

I think the conversion would be great, but I just can't see it being done as there has been lots of assistance offered and no concrete point of starting by the initial poster.....

P.S. master cylinders are very easy to change for another, toyotas have a wide variety of sizes available, I am running a 1" 1/16 on my 60 series....

Probably realised how expensive, and how much work it will be, and has given up.

Though now I say that, she will probably come back on having bought a chassis to put the body onto.
