dumbdance, just a nother 3b question. Have a axt turbo bolted on a freshened 3b. How much boost? if i put a 2 stage boost controler in will it produce more power with out adjusting fuel? Camshaft differences between a 3b & 3bt, could i benefit from a 3bt grind? Is a blow off valve ever used on diesels to stop turbo stall when throttle butterfly closed between gears. Can the mighty 3b with turbo push a 73 with 33s along the highway with a marks 8% overdrive transfer case gear set/ 58% reduct in low. ????
P.s. bisaloy is not very light,i have lifted a few plates before & is always a suprise to lift.

what year 3B do you have? if it is one of the newer ones with rotary fuel pump (1988?-) then it will handle about 10psi boost without intercooling if you keep a close eye on EGT's. with the 2 stage boost controller it will make more power in the midrange until it starts to lean out then it will make about the same once the boost is all in. If you are a careful driver and you have an EGT gauge fitted there is no real need for a boost controller, just set the wastegate for your chosen max boost, tune it to about 600C EGT on a hard, uphill third gear run, then drive it and keep an eye on the EGTs when the going gets tough. if it heats up, back off, simple as that.
if you have already bought the overdrive transfer gears well I guess you are stuck with them, it would be far better to get the underdrive gears, then 5th will still be of some use to you. as is you are probably better off doing most of your cruising in 4th, the 3B with turbo should have no problem whipping it along at 120+
dumbdance, 3b is in a 1986 mwd, has a inline pump, have not bought the marks gears, doing my home work before splashing the cash. Was thinking the 8% over because will be around 2000rpm in 5th at 100km & the misses drives a lot 800km a week.
What about the cam?
Intercooling is way to expensive for the output, correct?
Blow off valve? any examples?
thanks for the 600c stuff, have a gauge & a boost gauge in a box in shed!
How come toyota say that "Hilux are unbreakable"when we all know they are the easiest to bust ?
Ok now the serious question. I have a 90 model 4runner with a 22r. How easy is it to adapt the supra twin turbo 2 lt motor to the gbox so i can add a few more ponies ?
as for the different spring pins... there are two sized, the early and late 40 series, and 55 series have a slightly bigget pin than the early 40s, but not as big as the late 40's... if that helps

it's not so bad, takes about 15 minutes? I agree it's not as easy as a hulix or 60 series but it's by no means difficult. 80 series cruisers are mostly easy to work on, they are like a snap-together model!
what is the stand size alt on a 85 RJ70 with a 22r??
will i have 2 spotties on the bar atm, but i was wondering about roof lights, will i get away with 6 spotties??
cheers greg
roof lights are wanker baggage and ADR's say you're only allowed to have a max of 6 forward facing white lights, and if they work properly you will never need more than 4. upgrade your headlights with some halogen semi-sealed beams, and upgrade the wiring to bypass the stalk switch with the headlight current and you won't look back. Save your lights money for lockers and tyres.
for the record I think most bundys have a 65 or possibly 85 amp alternator. it is enough.
I currently have a 2.8D with a TD04 Turbo and a 2 1/2" System.
I have a spare 3L Head, cam, intake manifold etc and wanted to know if its worth doing up ie. ported and polishing etc is it worth getting a cam grind in diesels? - was going to get it done up then swap it over with my current head.
What sort of $$ would I be looking at and what sort of performance increase would I expect.
Dance,
i own a 90 model 75 ute 2 inch ext shackles,35 mtrs, 2.5 inch straight through exhaust system, no snorkel, now what do you know about the advancing of the timng and increase of fuel to get more output of your motor from fiddling with the injector pump, My 1hz has 122,000km's on it and i aint gonna hand it over to some u bute mechanic who will say SHE'LL BE RIGHT!. i do alot of towing with the horses and even with out the float and the dog meat on she is a wee bit sluggish, I am considering a turbo but not just yet due to financial but eventually. one last thing i had a diesel mechanic test drive my ute and i seen the tacho rev to 4400rpm!. the last 400rpm was like a flat spot, i asked the mechanic and he said i drove it like a softy when, i tell him that i boot it and shift at 3200-3400rpm wat you wreckon, personally i think he is a f$#k'n nut. thanks.
Hello DD. I know that a 14bt can be fit into a bj73 relatively easily. I was wondering how hard it is to fit in a 15bt. I hear that there is a little more involved with the 15bt. could you help with what is involved.
I couldnt find a thread in the search so if anyone knows of one please let me know.
Cheers.
Dave.
i own .....well thought i owed an 85 model 4Runner. untill yesterday. Brother had an accedent in it thought nothing of it until they had trouble finding a rear bar to suit it. The panel beaters ph Toyota and according to the data base my car is a surf???? Question is, Did the early model surfs come out with a soild front end and a 3Y petrol motor??? cos ive gotone at the panel beaters but its showing up as a surf but its got all of the 4 runner badges on it. Any help would be most welcome thanx
Surfy, as far as I know, NO early model surf had a petrol engine, they were all 2L diesels.
(waiting to be corrected)
If you don't have 2 compliance plates (1 from factory {silver} & 1 from importer{green}), then someone has done a shonky deal to move it on (cut &shut ).
91' Hilux Surf with the usual mods & a few different ones ....
