Outer Limits 4x4 Board

The rear seat is a bench seat - fold and roll type. In the pics it's just folded down which does just place it below the body line. Usually I also roll it forward and clip it into place. Maria is intending to make an alternative windjammer which will slope down from the Targa and meet the body further back - not as far as a full fastback top (Maria - by all means correct me if I'm wrong).

The front seats are pushed as far back as the rails will allow. I also drive it with the seats reclined a bit and they do extend beyond the rear of the Targa bar - again another reason for the extended rear windjammer.

This is looking really good so far. One thing mentioned a few times which has bothered me has been the bleating about needing a big window in the rear. Now that we have a prototype to look at it is easy to see that such a huge window will only make you sweat sitting in such a small cabin where so few people have airconditioning, not to mention the damage clear plastic undergoes on an offroad vehicle.

For the people who have not yet learned how to drive and need to look over their shoulders, they can just remove the back piece until they discover mirrors. And before someone goes off half cocked saying what about their blindspot, stop and think how does anyone drive a truck. Personally I would prefer a small window.

This is just my opinion and no doubt others will disagree.

The windjammer will be attached to the tonneau by press studs. I'm already working on the tightenes issue too.

And seats been push all the way back, etc.

When using the tonneau cover do you guys leave the rear seat on the car unfold?

Once I have the original finish I will look on making other options, like one windjammer in an ungle half way to the back of the car. Make tonneau sutible for cars with roll bars.

I thought on the heat too and I will offer a tinted window that might help this issue.

I will probable be able to offer smaller windows too. I'll think on that while I'm finishing the tonneau this afternoon!!

As for the rear seats, i would have thought most of us pull them out, they're rather usless and very uncomfortable to travel in...

Like the idea of a bit smaller rear window with tint too

Tinted windows were something I'd thought about and would be a great option.

Seats aren't so useless when you have regular passengers, but I'd agree that most people who use their vehicle extensively off-road probably take them out if they don't need them, if they own rear seats at all. I usually roll them forward when they are not in use. Otherwise they are in the fixed position. I don't leave them the way they are in the photos.

yeah my rear seats coming out was the first thing i did... needed the space in the back and they blocked sound from the speakers in the rear door =P

as for learning to drive so you dont need to look over your shoulder - how about learn to drive so you dont damage the area of the car behind the driver's head? lol - if you're damaging that window you're doing something seriously wrong =P

I also like the idea of the tint on that window... very cool idea!

Maria - what is the UV life on the plastic when tinted/untinted? does it change or is it all just 5 years? is there a mirror tint (one way) ?

And I totally disagree about blind spots - mirrors can't cover them all. If you've ever ridden a motorbike on the road, you hate people that don't do head checks.
And suzi's have a bad blind spot over the drivers shoulder.

The ordinary black it has a white backing and for what I have seen around most of the soft tops are made with this material or one preaty much the same.

The color material and the good black (ripstop black) it is much better quality, specialy the black ripstop, but it is more expensive.

Also inregards to that Blindspot thing.. having learnt to drive a truck I don't use my blond spots much i prefer a good set of blind spot mirrors so when I tried the blind spot thing tonight.,, I got a fave full of rool bar/targa bar.. I don't think any amount of canvas will change that

The material is 100% water proofed. What happend with soft tops is that they leak, working with soft material you really can not stop the water completely. The leaking can occure around sound bars, around the clamps that hold the bikini straps.

I have push the front seat back as far as they can go and recline them quite a lot, the windajmmer strech back and it works. I'm thinking on adding tonneau material where the seat push agains the window as reinforcement. Just the area that the seat touchs the window.

Don't think I will get on making the full soft top, not for now anyway...

any chance you think of that zipper idea?

is there any way to attach the bikini top only to the bar (just behind the seats) or do you have to run that strap to the rear of the car?

if u dont run the straps back the top will be prone to flapping about... the straps allow you to keep tension in the top =)

Looks real cool. I do have one idea though, I think the Tonneau cover needs some bows/spas/ribs whatever thr correct term is so water dosen't pool then come in where the windjammer attaches and floods the footwell this would be the low point I guess as the tub is level everywhere else.
