definitely no hideous clearance issues here - been driving it like that for a year now and i'm yet to bash them on anything.
I think you're forgetting just how close to the rims these bars are...

I guess that proves that the terrain dictates the setup. In vic, there's no question those bars will be a MASSIVE pita. We seem to drag the rear spring plates and shock mounts on stuff all the time, and that's with over 31" of tyre.
I love the idea of caltracs but they'd have to go above the axletube and run backwards to work for me.

perhaps - when i drive in sludgy, thick mud they do obviously go under it, but dont hang me up by any means, theyre quite aero/aquadynamic when travelling in a straight line.
I imagine if you were in an incredibly deep and sharp edged rut they'd rub or catch, but it'd need to be a near 90 degree walled rut with no other option but to sit hard up against it on the inside of the rim.
running the setup above the diff tube would perhaps be possible if it were mounted just to the side of the leaf and triangulated inwards or used a deliberately bent arm (Y shape, but mising one of the / bits). I cant help but think though that it would tend to bind up, and by not triangulating vertically you'd reduce the effectiveness.
you'll just have to make one steve =)

I think it's quite feasible to run them backwards on top of the axletube. Rear shackles would require some thought but it's no biggy.
We have lots of deep, 90˚ sided ruts in vic. I'm not making it up - there's no way they'd stay on a car here - you'd get sick of being on the end of a strap.
I'm going coil in my own car ATM, but I'm still in the build with a leaf car and don't have anything against leaves at all. Over the years I think I've done all I can with leaves, but that's not to say caltracs aren't the best traction bar idea I've seen.

Black Top doesn't count.
It looks like a great way to counter spring wrap...on a drag car.... but there's no way I'd put anything like that on my sierra.
Good on you for trying something different though...My sierra is in the build at the moment and I'm trying some things that people on here have been bagging for years...There's no harm in an educated "try" I reckon.

Alien, post up some pics of the terrain you drive so we can get an understanding of what it can handle.

I'll swing in for Aron here - have seen him tackle some of the gnarlier stuff around Perth and he's yet to get hung up on his track bars. Perth just doesn't have the rainfall to develop the kind of ruts (in most cases) that the Vic guys face on their tracks.

Dont forget it gets very bloody hot and dry here as well that clay dries out to set like concrete.

Steve.
I saw a BF RTV ute today that had torque bars on it
Anyway the springs are out rigged like WT's and the torque bars start at a mount just above the fixed mount and end on top of the diff just above the spring plate. Obviously they wont flex the same as a zook, but perhaps the design could be adapted.
** Found some thing, the 1st pic is the proper BF diff mount, the 2nd isnt the same as factory but very similar.
