Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Got most things done now. Still got to be painted and a few little things to sort. Shame I wont be able to get much drive time in cause I could sure do with it.

Seems like the spring rates I got are a bit stiff esp in the rear where there isnt enough weight to compress them so its limiting flex. I could put in some bumpstops (which I should do) and lower the upper shock mounts but I will have a bit more of a play tomorrow.

oh yeah, for the colours, something like blue cage with white panels (to keep to the mogrover theme

The similarities are unbelievable! Mind you, my tubework looks a bit beefier, don't know if there's much in it though...

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I already got it painted before I saw your ideas :bugger:

I still got a bit of welding to do (like harnesses, skidplates, diff bash plates etc) and I want to go for a bit of a test run also. Going to swap out the front CVs also and maybe run a county CV on the LHS and longfield on the RHS cause I think I got the axles for these.

Didnt plan on the colours being so close to the Karnivore and only realised once we opened the can. Basicaly orange was the only colour none of the rigs in the back yard are painted (we now got orange, blue, red, green, yellow, olive drab green)

Actually took it for a quick test run today and it went fairly well except the motor got hot and isnt running very well. Should be able to sort both probs out tomorrow before we leave for XRCC.

Feels very stable and everying is working supprisingly well for something straight out of the box (which is good cause I havnt got time for any sorting). Feels like its going to be a lot of fun to drive. Very light and nimble compared to the mogrover.

About the only things to do before we leave is to put the panels back on and swap the range rover CVs out for some new county ones. Probably wont post any pics till I get back on monday but its looking good. Will be interesting to see how it goes at the competition. I think that if the tracks suit (meaning no pebbley crap that will hang my diffs up with the small tyres) and I dont break then it should go allright. Mick (bobtail) driving my mogrover will still be hard for anyone to beat.

Quick story - the last steep dirt climb that I drove in the tube buggy before (actually "as") it was overheating I had a bit of trouble. Basically just a short fairly steep first section (car length long) and something that you carnt get much of a runup. Anyway the buggy wouldnt drive up it cause the motor was running up to shiat so I adjusted the timing a bit and hit it up again (full stick 1st) and it got there with a heap of wheelspin chiucking dirt everywhere. I parked it at the top and we rang for help (water and parts) so Rod Dirte comes up in my mogrover with the bits and I tell him to drive it up the hard bit that I juat drive (as opposed to the chickin track) I tell him to get into it in 2nd gear (sometimes Ive had to use third to drive this bit) - so he lets the clutch go at about 1500rpm (as opposed to the 4000rpm that I was thinking) and I think theres no way hes going to make it. Anyway he gets on the throttle a little bit and it claws its way up easily with hardly any momentum ....... and I though my tube buggy was going well (I had to use all the momentum I could get).

Think I had too much air in my tyres

So like I say its going to be hard to beat.

Do you think the lockers in the mog versus the HT-ETC in the buggy had anything to do with it??? I suppose you would need to run extremely low pressures in the buggy's tyres due to the light weight?? Also wheelbase???

Maybe you need to fill the front tyres with water!!! - would be even harder on the CV's though.

OH and - Good Luck to both you and Mick - the buggy looks awesome.
