I would love to enter the winch comp but 2 things stopping me.

1. I dont have a winch, and
2. We are having a baby in 2 weeks :D

I do think people should try and get behind the WA comps, I also think they could be organised a little better but I wont critisise them on that caus I know what its like organising events.

Duncan,
Hey guys if you dont want to compete dont ,dose it realy make any difference if you no the rules now or later isnt it about getting out and driving against other people and having fun?
The trouble is, that without knowing the rules and how an event is going to be scored, you can't make a reasonable judgement on how competitive your vehicle will be, and whether it is worth the extra $5, $50, $500 or $5000 to bring your vehicle up to scratch. For me, this is the biggest reason for not competing - I can wheel for fun anyday, that's not the _only_ reason for competing.

I cannot comprehend how you can advertise a winching event (for nearly 12 months now) and still not have a set of rules and a scoring schedule for the comp?? Has anyone heard of this happening elsewhere?

Cheers,

Gordon

Gordan, your pretty right there, but how about you just enter what you got, do the first comp then decide if the expenditure is feasable?

Comp's aren't all about winning either (I say this coz I always lose ;) )

Wheel what you got, have fun, encourage the growth of private property wheeling and comps, meet some people, break stuff, bag me for being a web wheeler, try win without having a capable rig, wear a blouse, root a goat, eat some sausage, who cares really as long as your helping the guys with numbers,

But if they get some numbers ad don't improve the organisation then don't go back coz you know it will never work anyway.

Paul, as shane he might lend you a winch if you ask nicely.... then again he might not as well. I reckon he should make you deal.. finish the lux and you can borrow a winch.

Maybe I should buy a stock zuk put a super cheap winch on the front, and then you guys don't have to worry about being last.

Agree with Gordon. Ditto with Ausyota. Got no winch or bar to hold it.

Matt - Take the zook ute in with the winch. no rules to say that it has to have an engine in there at all. :)

Dewse,

I'm not talking about "trying to win" either. Just enjoying the competition and being reasonably competitive. Look, a simple example ....

If I have a choice of 3 sets of tyres: old 2nd-hand 31" , 33" ATs or new 33" extreme MTs.

What do I use? If I knew whether actually being able to drive part of the course was important, and knew the rules, I might choose the new 33s. If it's just a case of "drive to the bottom of the winch wall and get yourself up", then probably the old 31s.

A whole heap of other decisions might ride on just exactly what type of winching comp this is? If the organisers can't tell me the rules because that's part of the competition's "appeal", I'm a little suspicious. If they can't tell me simply because they haven't made them up yet, then I'm doubly so.

I "gave it a go" and tried it out in 2004. And I know a few people who wouldn't try again because of that experience. One prominant scene that stands out in my mind is at the drivers' pre-start meeting on the first day, where the owner of an old Landrover was told that he could have fitted his mud tyres and still been in the lowest class (class A). Which was a bit of a bugger for him, as the posted rules on the website had said that he couldn't, so he had turned up (400 odd kms from where he lived) to the comp on his road tyres, making him pretty un-competitive. I would imagine that tarnished the experience of the event for him a little.

If the rules/scoring methods aren't made available for this comp, I can see the same sort of thing happening again.

If it was a cheap fun weekend u wouldn’t care about the rules, but when your paying $300 just to enter u want to have a idea of what your spending your hard earned cash on so u can get the most out of it.

People are saying don’t criticise and just support it, so what u are saying is the 20 odd people that are paying over $300 out of there own pocket to just put up with not knowing anything and hope for the best, instead of 1 person just posting up what is going on?? I think Alan needs to come into this thread and back up his comp, answer Qs and keep every one informed of what is going on.

the $300 is for the 3 comps not just 1.

As Duncans nav man (bitch) i would like rules but at the end of the day it dont matter .

We will go and give it a crack and have a blast not knowing what your up against adds to the intensity.

Who cares what whos got if your that serious then you would be organising the comps and running them.

Tuff truck run the night course and no1 gets to see that course so whats the diff no1 is winjin about it .

Thats my 2c

Now to get out and do some winching and drive the zook

Get on with it and maybe look at the winch challege in a diff light to a proper comp remeber it is not part of the competition it is just a winch challenge so nothing counts as for points in the actual comp at the end of the day.

Dave

if you win ya get a new winch

Bulldogy,

And you're lucky to have a vehicle that you can just "have a go in" and not care about the cost/carnage.

Some of us however, use our one and only 4WD as a daily driver. We want to know what to expect. We want to know how the event is being scored and what the rules are. Why is that so hard to understand?? Sure, a small few don't care, but I'd imagine there would be a _lot_ more people turning up to these comps if it was seen to be more open and informative.

And note that I'm not arguing about knowing the layout of the course. Just the rules!!

It appears alot of people are feeling the same as you gordan, judging by the amount of people who have showed up to get there rigs checked out.

This is the last time ill coment as everyone has their own ideas and opions .

Personaly it dosent bother me either way about the rules as im going to firstly have some fun in a compation type enviroment and secondly to support an event that will hopefully grow .As Dave said the winch comp is a seperate comp so if you spend a small amount of cash and dont like it it dosent matter and dont then compete in the other events .

In the end its Alans comp and he will run it how ever he chooses no matter what anyone says just deal with what you are given in your own way either compete and have some fun or stop fucking winging and dont turn up no worries sorry about the profanity but it gets up my goat when everyone continualy carries on about how WA needs some comps to start to catch up with the eastern states but then wont support it or just continualy winges about anyhting if people had a full set of rules im sure someone would complain about something you cant please everyone at least Alan is having a go and running a comp .If people feel so strongly about the comp rules ring Alan and personaly talk to him im sure he will give you his reasons.Or get of your buts and organise a comp of your own im sure there are lots of property owners who would help out.

Winch challenge a warn winch is up for grbs a pissy CV costs less than that.

The outback challenge give fuckall in the way of prizes so whats the big deal.

If you build up ya truk and wanna compete then compete if not then dont build a comp vehicle,.

Just come along and see how it goes it dont hurt me or duncan or any of the other competitors if ya dont rock up it means we have a better chance at the winch.

I wont comment again either its just egtin outa hand and that is my 2nd post.

I was looking at organising a comp but looking at the way you guys carry on the effort would not be worth it.

 Shame that it's like this.

I think to many people on here are afraid to loose. I suppose thats the advantage of being a natural born looser, nothing's ever a let down.

I still think everyone should rock up and wheel what you got. Forget the prize at the end and just get in there like dancan has said just get some experience in a comp.

Gordan > use the mudders. Thats why you have them!

George > Mate just give it a go, if you think the prize isn't good enough then just take it easy and see how well you can drive technically rather then going gun hoe and breaking a CV. I would agree $150 is a bit for a weekend and it really needs to be justified I suppose. But I think the way to look at this is a stepping stone for something half decent.

Guys I think we have to look at the previous comp and acknowledge that a hell of a lot of effort has been put into advancing the comp area. Before it was in a dirty sand crappy paddock with some bog holes. Alan and Co have worked pretty damn hard to develop a clay type property that has natural slopes etc. It's not like Alan has been sitting around not doing anything. Sure he hasn't given us a new set of rules but it would be hard to make a set of rules before the place has been wheeled and they know who they are catering for.

How about we all have a special OL group hug, make up!

Far out, Duncan and Dave u need to chill out and stop taking the comments personal (that is how u are coming across).
We all know u are entering to have fun, u have said it several times, but some people are in it to win and want to know rules and prizes, and that’s ok. So stop trying to make every one feel guilty about posting there Qs and thoughts up on this public forum.
It is usually the people that are trying to win that give the crowed the most entertainment because they push harder than the others, and that’s what every one wants.

I will e-mail Alan this link tonight, if no one says they have already during the day. It is no use having all this constructive criticism up here if he doesn’t know about it

Dave, saying that u were looking at doing a comp, but because people have different opinions (which is only about the lack of info available so close to the comp) is only a attention grabbing publicity stunt. If u were serious u would be taking all this info on board, remember every one on here is a potential customer.

Now as long as there are no personal digs, i cant see a problem with theses post continuing, but they are getting a bit repetitive.

Hay Shane,
Thats bit harsh on Dave he doesnt need to seek attention with his looks lol
But comments like that wont go down too well especially with the research he has been doing to try and organise a comp and the fact that he is laid up in bed with a farked neck, that is pretty bad.
Good way to piss him off. Ya lucky he knows ya and too farked to reply...

i can smell some serious whinging going on here.
The ball is in either court, all of you guys have valid points, but i think the best thing you can do, is compete in this years season (if you can), see how it goes. As long as the support's there, i cant a reason why Alan wont take note of constructive criticism, for next years season. Remember its a hell of alot of work for one person to organise such events.

Ill be up helping Alan on the Sunday of the winching event, and will be a spectator at the other events.

Guys

This post is so bad its actually funny

Let me give you the benefit of my short experience in offroad racing with 4wds.

1) the cars cost anywhere from $2000 to $250,000 and what do you win? A trophy worth $10

If your in motorsport for money you need to be a top driver in the V8s. You have to do it for love or dont do it at all

As for running event a huge amount of volunteer labour goes into it and all events in their start up need to be supported. If the $150 /$300 or whatever is to much get out now. Wait to you need to replace motors, gearboxes and modify winches etc. The entry fee will look cheap in comparison to the rest

Support your sport otherwise the voluteers get sick of the negitive comments and give up

Just go out and have some fun. Time will see better organisation than in the past Im sure they have learnt from the previous events

Maybe Shane and me are whinging the most because we can't enter anyway.

How many people have to be in this event to make it successful?
Oz rock only had 7 rigs and that was classed a really successful event.
Tuff truck the biggest event in oz couldn't even get 44 cars, and last year it struggled to get 33.

When a sport is in its infancy this is to be expected. Seems as if you guys are just starting out over there. Enter it, enjoy it and see where it grows.

Competition 4WDing is as expensive as you make it, drive like a lunatic and you'll bust stuff weather it be in a comp or a weekend away.

Rules however are a must, how else are people to know when they will be penalized for safety issues, hitting bunting, not driving an obsticle etc. Teams need to plan this stuff before the event.

Sorry if i'm jumping in from the other side of the country.

G.day all
4x4 is great isn't it? thats why we all own one and why we are all members of this great forum. Firstly I would like to say that I to would like to now the rules of engagment for the fantastic, one and only, competition opportunity we all have this year !!! If I dont get a set of rules will I not compete ? I will be there with bells on in my every day 4x4 and work car , will I break some thing? probably!!! as most of us do everytime we go out and play on weekend runs. I would say that most of us if not all of us love the sport, fun and friends it creates and that we like to push our off roaders and get through areas that test us.
$100 a comp. $50 for each day dosnt seem to be a lot of money for a weekend of competition and entertainment and as far as prizees go ive never expected a pot of gold at the end of bobs hill or any of the over tracks or hills Ive had a go at!!
Lets give Allan a BREAK as it seems he is our only hope in hell of getting a comp up and running and once 2006 is over we will have a purpouse built 4x4 park that future comps can be run at. Feed back and expereance gained will make 2007 bigger and better

WITH NO COMP. THERE IS NO COMPETITORS, WITH NO COMPETITORS THERE IS NO COMP. LETS GET BEHIND 4X4 IN W.A. AND SUPPORT THIS OPPORTUNITY, IF WE DONT OUR CHANCERS WILL ALL DRY UP!!!!!

You need rules. Not only for the competition now, but for those in the future. You need rules for the safety of the competitors and the safety of the spectators.

How do you get insurance without rules set in place?
