These are Roctoy's brackets but I re drilled them to suit my application better, they are bolted on with 3 bolts instead of 4 but it doesn't worry me.
I just wanted them higher up and more out of the way, I could do this because I run lift blocks.

I still have to hook up the hand brake one day :roll:

From what i remember they are off the FRONT of a 1989 L series wagon, the rounded shape ones.

Have worked on a few of thwe L series subarus and could swear there off the front as the handbrakes are hooked up to the fronts on them.

Dang your spot on, unless I got the car back to front I got the farkers off the front my self :roll: undid the bolts and all I did :lol:

Press it all off then press the bearing/retainer and collar back on.

Thats it but you can use your old hilux handbrake cable and just modify the levers on the calipers to suit.

Have paid for a set, he is probably busy and this wouldn't be a big money maker for him so I would give him another week or so.

Hi all.

I haven't ventured out in this weather the last couple of nights to pick them up. I will be picking them up tonight from the laser cutters and they will be posted out tomorrow lunchtime via express post, so with any luck you will all have them by the weekend.

would the 1mm difference in the height be a big problem? These would need to be machined to open up the center hole.

Note the PCD for the frontera is the same as a hilux 6 x 139.7

From what i can see, the frontera would work as well.
The slightly smaller diameter will be ok as will the 1mm extra depth.

This rotor will be more suitable for those worried about the centre hole size as it is easy to machine out.
This is quoted from page 3, Frontera rotors with the Subaru calipers and these brackets will not work as the Frontera has larger internal shoes and the caliper needs major grinding (too much) of the caliper mount to fit. I Have a set of the Frontera ones and just got GQ ones today.

has any one finished this yet and what setup have u used do the 80s and prado booster bolt straight to the fire wall on an 85 4runner or if u have changed it at all. i already have it all bolted up and no pedal which i knew was goin to happen and this is where u come in what have u used to get pedal back

sorry if i missed it but does this set up run the front style studs pressed through the rotor and the axle flang on the back side or does the rotor simply fit over the wheel studs and flange on the wheel side?

Hi guys, I just want to clear some things up in reguards to the Subaru calipers...


The "L" series subarus ARE the square shape!!!!! Built from late 1984 till the early 90's. All of these models had ventilated 18mm discs, with the handbrake on the front wheels. The L series is also inentifiable from the EA82 motor which used timing belts instead of pushrods, and were the first subys (4x4 atleast) to come out with a 5 speed manual.

The early "round shape" (MY series) sold from late 1979 through till late 1984. All sold in the 'Touring Wagon' guise were fitted with the 18mm vebted discs, the majority of 'sports wagons' had 12mm solid discs, although the vented items were available as an option with the factory towing pack. The Brumby was sold with solid discs from 1981 till 1984 ( the same time as the "L" series relaese) at which point they were sold with the 18mm vented discs till mid way through 1992 when they seased production. However these "late" Brumbys had the early discs and calipers NOT the l series type!!!!!

All of the above mentioned models were fitted with front mounted handbrakes!!!

Now to my problem with my Hilux, she has the small drum brakes with a center hole of 91mm instead of 110mm!!!! and using the Gq rear rotors would be insane due to the massive difference in hole size, has anyone got any ideas on what type of disc would be suitable... or do i see myself swapping axle's???

Mine has differant hole sizes aswell, doesn't affect it at all. The studs centre the rotor.

how engineerable is this mod?

would love better brakes on the lux, has anyone finished it and got5 it to wrok better than before?

Should be engineerable as the rotor is held on the same way in disc rear 80 series cruisers, only the 80's have a philips head screw holding the rotor to the axle flange that dosen't do SFA.

Yeah thats all well and good, but whats stopping the rotor from doing its own thing and moving about on the studs?? The 2 philips bolts on the 80 do alot more than you think!! If the disc is not fitted spot on then i assume vibration would occur as is becomes 'out or rounds' in an oval kinda rotation!!!!

Im just sayin that on my truck i'd rather have the diamater of the center hole of the disc and the locating flange on the axle as close as possibe... 20or 3 mm dont cut the mustard with me!!! The idea of rear discs is to improve safety by a shorter stopping distance, and if its not dead right you might as well not do it

The shoulder on the wheel studs are a tight enough fit to centre the rotor properly.

Hey Roctoy, is their any more brackets gonna get knocked up?
Has anyone been able to get their whole kit up and stopping good?
Has anyone had trouble with getting the right calipers?

Is it just me or are the pictures not there to view?

Just to recap on what you need to purchase with a bit more detail would be great but I think I have it

SO - 2 steel slide L series 18mm vented brumby calipers?
2 roctoy brackets
2 rear gq vented rotors
custom lever to suit toyota handbrake cable etc or adapt subi cable to toyota one
use all existing studs and nuts
adapt brake lines from a 80 series front brake line

remove backplate press the lot back to together, bolt on new components
correct? do you still need the section of backing plate in there as well

so is this the right caliper? if you extended the length of the hand brake lever would that increase its pulling power from the pivot point?
