I can't say I like that classing Shane, or some of the finer details (eg straps on vehciles to prevent damage but not to pull the vehicle??? wtf mate ).
But hey it's your event and I can see it's more aimed towards fun and stockish vehicles (I class a 4" lifted patrol on 33s as stock ) no doubt it will work well, good to see safety is becoming of greater concern.
I hope I can make it to one of the rounds in the new year. Just so I can whinge about the comp in general

Yeah ok, I can see what you're saying about the cage.GRIMACE wrote:Thats exactly were you would be in the classin I put forth.OIIIO wrote: I reckon If you want to run an Exo cage and 39"+ tyres.. that's OUTLAW.
The problem I see is poor young timmy doing his welding ticket, who has a stock suzuki with home made exo can't really compete.
It also means that if I was to enter Fluffy with 37s and dual lockers, I would be fine for the extreme mod, but as soon as I run some bar work up the a pillar and over the roof line I am an outlaw?
The bar work is there to give me confidence and add safety, so you gain that, and then get stuck against chopped rigs that weight less, have bigger tyres, have more flex, more power, more stability etc etc...
Then you have to drive over stuff bigger then your bonnet all because of some bars... barwork doesnt necessarily make a car more capable, I guess is what I am saying.
Same theory as to why I dont think classes should consider body lifts, they just there to clear bigger tyres, which makes them irrelevant, because as soon as the tyre size goes up, you go up a class.
If you run small tyres and a big body lift your gonna be at less of an advantage to those running the same tyres without IMHO.
My original classing was to allow more overlap between class requirements so people could choose to change certain things to be in different classes and not have to redo their entire vehicle. If that makes sense? I dont know, I havnt realy thought about it much until today. Never really intended on competing either, just thought I would throw up another opinion.
But, I was thinking that Extreme Mod would be a great class for people who drive their rigs on road, but want to step up to 35's or 37's to compete. Not too many daily drivers with exo cages.
I reckon the first three class's should encourage road registered (and driven) rigs, with the trailered rigs free to run amok in their own class.
But either way, I'm just as happy to turn up and drive. I'm not racing anyone except for myself!
The easiest way to sort the class's out would be to simplify them.
class 1.
Max 33's tyres
Max 4" lift
No Lockers
No beadlocks
Road Registered
Factory driveline
No exo cages
Class 2.
Max 37" tyres
Max 6" lift
Lockers ok
Beadlocks ok
Barwork ok

Class 3.

Go nuts...
Or we could all buy Huyndai's with big mufflers and sub woofers

What part of class 2 is road leagal ? Are you guys going to build your car when you get there?? In my opinion that defeats the purpose. I have de-registered my car because it is not road legal, so that puts me in the buggy class... I don't think thats very fair. Just because I trailer my car shouldn't mean that I'm in the 'top' class.
An LSD works well until you get a wheel off the ground or if you stop. That is my experience anyway. If you have an LSD though you tend to put a locker in the front instead of the rear so you are wasting money to put a locker over the top of the LSD.OIIIO wrote:A well adjusted and maintained LSD works every bit as good as a Locker.
If you allow 1 locker plus LSD, that puts anyone with an open rear diff at a huge dissadvantage.
(for example, guys who run dual ARBs' but 33" tyres)
Just saying..........
However I am warming to the idea of having just a rear locker only in the modified class or LSD.

no matter what, there will always be someone disadvantaged in some way by the rules. u cant write rules that will suit everyone. if an lsd is considered the same as a locker, fine. if u dont like it buy a locker or whatever it is that makes u more competitive. no ones stopping u. but before u do, remember, this is supposed to be just for fun. cheap entry, can avoid obsticals that your not comfortable with, and at the end of the day, series winner of extreme mod had a rear lsd only, no lockers. and 11evil, on paper doesnt compare well to some of his competitors, but the way its driven speaks for itself. are u going to drive cause u like to, or are u going just to win?? cause if so perhaps this is the wrong comp for u
For modified class we will go with just an LSD or rear locker. Open front.

At the end of the day what ever Brendon and Shane decide about the rules is up to them. 1 Thing i would include is the ability to rock stack as it is a very used aspect of wheeling. From stockers to Tuff Trucks.
This shouldnt be penalized in my view unless the navi is not wearing gloves whilst stacking.
If the county has to compete in outlaw then hell we will have a go! Just mean we got to compete a bit smarter. ( And possably fit some lifting points to the roof so when the big bus bellies out it can be lifted straight out by old mate in the excavator)
Speaking of the excavator!! How awsome was it haveing old mate doing recoveries. And he did it well indeed. I think if he comes along to the next round to do recoveries then perhaps everyone should throw a beer his way.
To anyone who has been reading this and thinking its all just a big bitch fest it is not the case. Over the weekend we had a ball. Not just driving but meeting and helping others and generaly just talking shit to others.
Its a great comp and lets keep it that way or it will fold like all the rest.

Shane your idea for modified class.
I think its imposable to police if a LSD has been shimmed or not.
Also it allowes us to run the road tires (33 MTRs) for the county and fit the class.
We would not (maybe ) do this but it does allow some to do it.
Maybe add to your idea that it is also up to the organizers discretion as to what class you will compete in. And that there call is final.

To everyone, both those who have competed and those who are looking forward to the next comp.
The rules will be finalised by myself next year. Shane will post them but we have had a vision for this comp and I think it has been said over and over again. The event will be fun. The event is designed to attract those who don't want to modify their cars to meet a long list of rules. It also will allow those who have not got the driving experience to go in a lower class. Those who want to go in a higher class can to like Rob.
Thanks for all those who have given their opinions on what they would like to see in the various classes.
We had over 50 cars in the last comp and we want to ensure everyone has a good time. For some of us damaging cars is fun for others it will bring a tear. We have also been asked to include a funcarna style event which i think is a great idea.

We offered the operator free beer as we had an 18 gallon keg at our camp site. The operator(anyone know his name) did an awesome job on the weekend. We bent a steering arm and broke the front axle and had to be lifted out by a Hyundai of all machines. Thanks Jodie for reminding me
Top recoveries.

i run a locker up front cause of the ifs and a trusty mitsu lsd in the rear not that that helps, and for the jeep its got f/r lsd's

depending on budget and mods it'll put the sigma up a class anyway

Yeah I thought about the poor beat up Sigma for quite a while before coming to that decision. It makes it very easy to police. In the class throughout the year I don't think many have had a front locker. It also keeps things as even as possible. However it is an inclusive event and you will be able to compete in the same class but you just couldn't take home the prize.big wheel sigma wrote:What the. this would push the sigma up a class and the jeep.Suspension Stuff wrote:For modified class we will go with just an LSD or rear locker. By the way, my Jeep does not have a front limited slip and because I won the overall prize Brendon is making me go up to the next level being Extreme Modified.
Considering my Patrol hasn't started its transformation into a comp rig I think the Jeep might get a front locker and go up by about an inch. I don't think I will be able to run bigger then 32" tyres though because of the weak Grand Cherokee drivetrain that I refuse to spend money on.
