This will give you an idea of what some of us had to put up with Saturday morning. This is one of the worst photos i didn't delete off my camera, it was a lot worse at times, to the point of not even being able to see the course. This was taken 'front row' behind the fence, they did eventually start getting their act together as the day went on, but it should never have been like this from the start.

have to say i agree with you Pete!

all the tracks were great fun with a real mix of challenges, but yes it would be good to see more "extreme" tracks or bonus lines to seperate the top few trucks.

My favourite of the weekend was the rocky horror, BeeBee drove the last ledges so easy it was stupid. Basically at the bottom i got out to use the spotter strap and as i was untangling it i told him to inch it up the first step, and to my suprise he just kept driving and before i knew it he was on the top slab and i had to chase hime up the hill

Maybe next year swap the Car destroying mud for a artificial rockcrawling course similar to the one at Landcruiser park. It really does make more sense as the vehicles are evolving more towards this style of driving rather than "mud buggies". A lot less punishing on rigs and heaps more entertaining for the crowd. Could even try some purely man made obstacles like in the US

Had and awesome weekend, Dave drove soooooooo well and to end in 5th place was a good result, although if we hadnt tried to winch in the mud we would have got 4th as we were only 20pts from Dobbin.

I think we need bigger tyres or more clearance as the 4 cars in front of us had at least 42"-49" tyres and portals  even our 37" mtr spare was bigger than the boggers. But i cant wait to give it another shot next year, met heaps of top guys (thanks to the custom krawla guys for helping us rewire our burnt out wiring harness  )

i've never been to tuff truck. But i'd say leave the mud in. It's not meant to be a rock crawling competition. It's meant to be a tuff truck comp with a variety of terrain. From reading what i have read here far more damage was done out of the mud than in it. The website says the results will be up today.

Okay, i noticed while spectating, there were a shit loads of people watching the mud runs, the way i see it, Mud runs should be kept to the last event, so after each car finishes on sunday, theyt go over and do the Mud run, this will ensure there weekend doesnt finish early due to the mud.

Nissan Trials was the same, i was lucky to have the mud event second last,

I guess I really enjoyed this event. Was alot different to what I was used to driving.

I think the mud definately needs to stay. It was the one thing i really sucked at and was lucky to get to the 90 point mark and it made my motor run up to crap for the sundays courses but the way the rigs that were setup for the mud handle it was awesome. I think Antunacs drive in the mud was the most impressive drive that I saw the whole weekend - absolutely blitzed it which gave him an event winning points lead over the rest of us.

The rest of the courses could be alot harder for the big rigs. I few more ledges and off camber stuff will make it harder for the big rigs and make the smaller rigs more competitive which I think would be a good thing. I think alot of the tracks could be improved to get rid of alot of the diff hangers which would make the smaller tyred rigs more competitive and make a cleaner competition with less guys just getting hung up on the diffs (which is boaring to watch IMO)

Overall it was a lot of fun for me and was glad that I was just able to sneak into 2nd spot in front of Gonands. Next year Im going to make sure I wil be setup for the mud with a shiat load more horsepower.

Firstly thankyou to everyone involved in the organising and running of this event. I had a ball!

It's great to be a part of such a prestigious event.

We'll approach things a little differently next year and hopefully be a little more competitive. Although no doubt everyone will do the same, thus raising the standard again. If I have 1/2 as much fun next year, I'll still be stoaked!

We were very pleased with our 5th placing. I was frustrating to know how close we were to 4th but I guess that's part of the fun.

My personal thanks goes out to Greg (1madengineer) my spotter as (I think many would agree) he is one of the best spotters out there. And I obviously wouldn't be there without the support of my sponsors.

Thanks again to all concerned :D

I heard about that - major bummer, I feel your pain, that had to hurt.

Where would you have been with those extra 200 points?

How do you think I felt the 1st TTC when I came 4th, 3rd was 4 points in front of us :bad-words: if on the last stage we hadn`t of run our winch cable out (which did nothing other then give us more points) we would have come 3rd and got some prizes for all the $$$$ I put in

But anyway you guys did very well and it goes to prove that you can do just as well in events when you have a lot shorter DNF times  my hat comes off to you guys

Thanks Guts. I appreciate the complement.

I guess every competitor there last weekend would show some level of frustration to the way there particular circumstances panned out. Hell - you not a true competitor unless you believe you could have improved you efforts in one way or another.

I like the system of a score tally after each stage so you know where you're placed and the buffer you have from other competitors. This brings about a more tactical approach to your driving. It also adds to the pressure and allows the crowd to get more involved. For example what gets a footy crowd going more - a try in the first 5 mins or one in the final 5 when the scores are close? If everyone knows what is going on, then there is more enjoyment for all :D

I would like to congratulate the organisers for everything they did over the weekend.

I turned up in the Overkill Vitara which was untested as we finished it 4:30 friday morning. I was unable to run the night event as a overheating problem at first turned out to be a corroded welsh plug in the cylinder head. The officials were very helpful and never angry about missing the event or the Sat morning not making it to the show N shine. Infact they came to me for engineering while I was refitting the head.

That was my first comp to and I loved it. I was very pleased with 17th after all the drama's.

I do agree the stages could have been abit harder. athough running Pete's truck through the mud 3rd made it worse for the people after, but luck of the draw I guess. they also need to work out something better for the "bonus" points on the tracks that have the option, some guys were disadvantaged for giving these sections ago points wise.

Looking forward to next year but got to build my rig for WE ROCK in 2 months.

Thanks heaps to Sam keck from OVERKILL Engineering for giving me the oppotunity to experience Tuff Truck.

Got to love my engineering result - I got 15th in the mogrover

I guess a rig thats not made with any custom parts and has been beat to crap doesent have any engineering in it.

Just glad Pete beat me by 100 points and it didnt come down to someones opinion on what makes a capable 4wd.

Show n Shine and engineering have allways taken it up the arse in the scoring method.

Show N Shine should take the WHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! rig into it, inside, engine bay, under carage, paint, rims as well as the over all look of it. After all it is called show and shine.

Engineering, should it be engineered to look good, work well and hold up/together? I think so.

I also think that if you break over the weekend then you should loose a few points simply because of the name of the event Tuff Truck Challenge, if ya rig breaks then its not fully a tuff truck is it.

I was glade to see in the scores that even if we hadn`t broken we still wouldn`t have got 3rd. That would have just realy pissed me off. 4th is where we would have finished and thats just the 1st person to get nothing

agree with guts-"engineering" should be based on whether it holds together not how big your tyres are or how many hydraulic bits you have -afterall its "tuff truck" not soft truck

In my opinion, Engineering should be just that... how well it is engineered. The quality of materials, the quality of parts, the quality of the welding, the quality of the design, the thought that was put in to making it all work.

Not necessarily how expensive all the components were, or how shiny they are... just that they are fit for purpose and not thrown on as an afterthought.

A well engineered truck should hold together as well, but anything is breakable if you drive it right (wrong?)... engineering is about the truck, not the driver or drivers style.

engineering, ramp and show and shine scoring is always going to create a debateable outcome, but it is good for the spectators although it certainly does not represent the capability of each vehicle. that is only determined by some much harder courses.

the only thing i didn't get with the scoring was on the frame twister, how everyone bypassed the end of the track yet some still got "clear course 50pt" bonus's. My understanding was that you had to complete the course without any penalties as well to get the 50 bonus, not just get to the 80pt mark and call it quits.(not that it would have changed any placings).
Why didnt we all do thin in the mud then, go around to the 35pt just before you drop in to the mud then drive around and finish with 35 + 50 and not even get wet! or did i miss something? :?

Overall I absolutely loved my first TTC experience & I'm ready to slap my name down again for next year with plenty of leason learnt.
Infact at the end of the day I had only 3 complaints, but hundreds of areas I was impressed by.

1. The communication. Sometimes getting the "Drivers Rep" wasn't easy and also It would have been nice to know dinner started at 5pm for the competitors rather than have to beg for cold food when returning from the night run (but partly our fault for holdingf up the night run 'em  ;))....

2. Frame Twister - we walked the track quickly before hand with the map in our hand...the map did not indicate that the second set of tyres was "optional"......Nor that for driving around you'd get "bonus" points....otherwise after our crack at the tyres we had time left to try and get unstuck and complete the flat drive out....but simply weren't aware....Oh yeah and no bonus points for attempting the "optional" tyres....I was a bit surprised that there was no points marker for at least getting the front wheels onto the tyres....

3. The points system - to me it didn't seem right that a competitor could get negative points on a stage, &/or get penatlies for running out of order....yet if unable to run the stage at all the was no penalty....So for bottom feeders like us it meant guys that were broken back at camp scored higher (but then again I guess it could be argued that I should learn to drive etc  )..... but I guess that's what I need to put down to experience.......

But to reiterate - OVERALL it was awesome.....The crowd was great...and the competitors even better and as a n00bie I was impressed with how much everyone helped everyone out as much as possible and just freindly everyone was.....roll on 2006.....
