We fly into Melbourne on Sat morning 13th arriving at 8-15am on flight Qantas QF0038.

Then we have arranged for a hire of a Crusier(with Nissan badges fitted!), once we pick up the truck we are off shopping and then the long drive.

Probably will stop on the way and stay a night, not sure yet, but there is about 12 off us coming over - 3 hire trucks.

Anyone else likely to be driving up that way on Sat morning, maybe we could have a convey

We are leaving bout 4:30-5:00am to get thru the city (there is a freeway but it will get busy with people going to work and I live over an hour south of the city) to get there in the afternoon on Friday 12th.
SS1 is on Saturday night and will start in the dark so will prolly start about 7pm. This is where the fun starts and is an ace way to start watching the event around a fire with a few cans.
My suggestion for you guys if you wanna watch this is to be heading north no later than........ well I don't think you'll get there for the start, but if you leave pretty much strait away you may see some. I't about a 10-11hr trip from Melbourne.
What are you shopping for???? As Brioken Hill has most things you will need. Only to happy to help.

Thought maybe we need to pick up food and liquid - but now that you have said we can get it all at Broken Hill, then we probably will drive straight on.

Do the shops at Broken Hill open late - maybe we can get supplies next day ?

One of the chaps in our party went last year, so hopefully we should be ok

What would you suggest Jonesy

Is that bloke Sooty?
The shops will prolly be open on Saturday night & Sunday to get supplies for the week.
If you are picking up the cars from the airport you could just head north and will be able to get saturday food/beer on the way.
If you are gunna stop & camp on the way you will prolly get up to the Mildura area and there is lots of accom there.

No Sooty is not coming over, the chap is Peter Durkin, also coming is Simon Guy who is Grant Guys brother. Both compete in winch challenges here.

Still waiting to here from Pete of our plans - driving right through or stopping at Mildura.

What do you think the best footwear would be, over here we where boots and gauters as we are in a lot of mud.

Looking forward to meet a few of you chaps over a beer or two. I know Doddzee is too. The 4 of us who are travelling from our club in Wellington(300+ members) all drive V8 powered shorty GQ's

Going to be a great 10 days

Mosse has a point!!
But melbourne is better!!!!
The terrain you will be walking on is varied. Sand, gravel, rocks, and a bit of mud. I will be just wearing a comfy pair of sturdy bush footwear. You prolly wont get close enough to the mud to get dirty but don't wanna have to keep emptying your boots when trudging round the sand. And there may be a bit of walking.

Have been way to busy working on the Rangie to find the time to post  We went to scrutineering last night and was knocked on a couple of minor items that will be sorted by tomorrow arvo :P

Leaving 5am Thursday morning hoping to get to B.H. Caravan Park around 5pm (slow drive as have 1 year old daughter with us). Adrian's towing the Rangie up and should be there around noon on Thursday.

Hope everyone else's plans are going well and will see you all up there

I'm the winch biatch in the Rangie so don't hesitate to come and say G'day ;)

Well I thought I would get in and wish everyone an enjoyable & SAFE trip. Looks like some have beaten me to it.

Any way good luck, drive hard and keep safe (and that includes spectators. Just remember the think about what way the truck will roll...)
