Bl**dy well put and thats exactly what I would do. No way would I adopt the "she'll be right...wack a bit off and bash it in" fix.

Cal might even be agreeable to just swapping the parts over? - would save you alot of grief or extra expense.

I've done the quick fix before and its got me into trouble, so if i take my time with this one, a good conclusion/result can come of it.

Cal are very good, and at the end of the day I'm very sure we can sort the above issues out if i need an exchange product/item.

I still (in my mind) think i can make the trust washer work for me, its just going to be a matter of getting a day to do it.

Its all going to depend on the thickness of the trust washer. I have not even laid eyes on the cvs, so as of yet, i have no idea if the inner axle has a taper on it, or whatever.. I'll work that out on the night. But i'm still concerned as I was told the std Nissan cv which came out of the car, and the cal are the same length side by side... The spindal hub sits the same distance on both, so I'm going to have to see..

I fly home about midnight on the 8th and we leave on the morning of the 9th. So chances are I'll run the std short side, and take a spare and just take it easy. I've been waiting 6 months to do this trip, and i have a night to pack the car, so pulling the long side down again, ripping the center out and playing with the locker might be asking for trouble, and I'll be so devistated if i cant fix it on the night - thats the reason for my frustration.

I'll post picture of what i do, and if i can get a feasible option that will work for me...

cheers

Jimmy

I had a thrust washer in my locker. Jmac fitted the Cal CVs and axles when he changed my ring and pinion gears and he just removed the thrust washer. I say pull the centre and take it out, fit your CVs and take your trip.

Having said that, that's coming from someone on a budget who, likes spairs easily accesable, last thing i want is to break a cv or shaft and have to wait a week for a replacement.

no problem mate, everyone is entitled to an opinion. You rpost sound very much like a bitching session than an informative one if you ask me, but i am sure you arn't.

You have to either cut your axles on both sides or remove the thrust block.

By the way, i fitted them to my gq with an old style locker with no thrust block and no issue.

:finger: :D

Relax mate

Well the price of a Gu front diff is $1300-1800 then add up all the spares you have to carry.

You can always replace a Cal CV with a standard cv if you cant wait a week for replacement so i dont really see how this is budgeting
