scoring
yes a good event and lots of fun-my only criticism is the scoring needs a review. Negative points? what's that? I watched the vehicle a few cars ahead drive the all terrain (100pts) with one winch and recieved 1 point for a great drive-he was a real crowd pleaser. Surely this needs an overhaul. We all (should) know the basic safety proceedures when wheeln particularly at this comp level so the penalties should not be over the top-its not driver training. We estimated if we didnt have a winch at all over the weekend we would have faired a lot better on points but we were keen to get to the end of each track at all cost. I;m sure spectators arent there to see vehicle after vehicle stuck on the 1st obstacle -then wait around for the excavator to drag them away.

Not necessarily how expensive all the components were, or how shiny they are... just that they are fit for purpose and not thrown on as an afterthought.
A well engineered truck should hold together as well, but anything is breakable if you drive it right (wrong?)... engineering is about the truck, not the driver or drivers style.

I agree
But with no disrespect to the people who judged the engineering they wouldn't of had a clue as to what was underneath half the vehicles. For example my truck has 60 series diffs under it they thought they were Zook diffs cause thats what was on my spec sheet from when we entered. Ruffs for another sure has rover diff housings but all hilux internals they didn't know that .So really i think they need to inspect this aspect of the comp with the of the vehicle.Or get a full spec sheet off the driver first.

To a certain extent I agree the point system definately needs to be reviewed.
I was only a spectator but I also agree BIG penalties should be given to errors like "no helmut", "no seat belt", "no window nets", "stepping over live cable", etc. We all know what has happened in the past with safety issues being overlooked.
This event is argueably the most high profile event on the 4WD calender and there is a lot of spectator and media on hand. I feel if the top competitors can't adhere to simple saftey issues (even under pressure) they deserve to cop it.
Us plebs in the 4WDing fraternity do look up to the big boyz in the big toyz and if they are seen to be getting away with dangerous behaviour, that not only reflects badly on the sport but also could leave bad ideas in the heads of the lesser educated 4WDers out there.
I cringed every time I saw a navi jumping over a live cable and personally, at that level I feel there is no excuse for such a simple error.
Otherwise, TTC05 was V.Cool, had a ball.

Not that im whinging but i think the penality points are a bit over the top like we got done 50 points for wheel spin in the mud event which put us back to 35 points if that was the case we could of stopped at the 35 point mark and saved the car gettin muddy....
Also they need to get there rules right..... In the mud event we were told 3min wheel spin limit at the bottom at the start they then told us 5sec wheel spin limit and there was no time limit to finish the event.....
Who judges engineering anyway i guess people with no idea cause they picked all the cars with the shiny sh1t on them and the most $$$$$$$ thrown at them...... The zook was built from the ground up with alot of work put into it to make sure it works and we got 3rd last ( I think)
Also trying to understand if the penality points are given how come Pete Antunac on the rocky horror event used his winch to get up the last bit but only got a 7 point penality not what it was suppose to be

thank you
To all those people who have taken the time to post to this subject thank you for your feedback on the event.
I have taken note of the main criticisms:
there will be less fluro vests standing up inside the tracks, more bins, harder courses, a quicker gate entry process, the score system will be refined and progress scores will be broadcast, we can even explain the scoring system in the programme.
I would like to publically thank all the people who put the thing together the list is too long to put here but in particular Amy and James.
I would also like to thank the crowd who by the number of cans we picked up had a great time and on the whole let everyone else have a great time.
hope to see you all at tt06 (31 mar - 2 Apr).
If you would like to send in other comments please send an email to ronw@tuffevents.com.au

Remeber this is for fun, so enjoy!
The ponit that showing up on tufftruck site are not the full penality/bonus points break down, Peter got to the 100 points and 20 extra for finishing the course and had 27 penanlity agaist his run.
We had a two bonus points for completing a track
1 if they completed the track with no penalities 50 extra ponits
2 if they completed the track regardless if the occured penalities they go 20 bonus ponits.
Next year will be better as we have now found out what we need to fix and get it right

So does that mean you have to actually finish or you were allowed to bypass selected objects and still get full bonus points?
although i enjoyed tuff truck i enjoyed 2002 better , the atmosphere at night was filled with so many dickhead b&s slack jawed yockels it was far from something i'd take my family to again , as for the tracks being all new maybe the mystery night event but ever other course was far from completely new , i do think the extended tracks were better than 2002 veiw, but thats the next critism , the areas to spectate from are few and far between if you get there a little late , i think thats one reason put up or shut up was so good , you could sit down and see everything . i got a good postion on the rocky horror , and didn't move all day .
and pre paying tickets to get you in faster ? dam i would have hated to pay at the gate.
and the dude at the cattle grid giving directions to specific camp site , told me one way my mate behind me another and the three cars after that either ither, i think he though he'd just be a smart ass!
but enough whining it did have some good bits like bee bee DRIVING the rocky horror final ledges unlike all the other rigs i believe , seeing pete A actually giving that yellow money pit a fair canning seeing the mogrover do so well in the mud event when i think everyone gave up hoping anyone towards the end would get past the bog hole on the last corner , seeing snowy give the first hill on rocky horror one big hit of testosterone as did wild violet , all in all the driving was more exciting than 2002 to watch thankyou to all who competed for giving us such a good show .
