G'day Ross,
could you please recommend a resonator for my Landy Defender 130 300Tdi exhaust ?
I've run it in 3" (2.5" off the turbo, OE was 60mm, then 15* cone up to 3") no mufflers and there is a resonance/drone at @ 100km/h (somewhere around 2200-2500rpm) It's just too loud (I must be getting old....
)
Is near the end of the system better? If so, a can length of only around 300mm long and 100-125mm diameter is required.
Way back when I was playing with race cars we always felt it was best to have the muffler as close to the exit as possible, any thoughts on this ?
thanks.

hey Ross,
great info you are giving out. top effort.
my question is :
what would be the best setup for replacing the std system on my 2.8td pajero lwb.
garret T04 turbo,13psi std boost.
not looking for loudness, but would be good to have turbo kick in a bit lower in rev range(currently about 1800rpm) and obviously more go in general.
is it best to go from turbo back ?
what kind of price should i be looking at?
do you send interstate?
cheers

any where near 1 bar of boost warrents this size

G'day exhaustfix.
I've already picked your brain for info, so thanks again for that. Well... The exhaust on my 2.6 pajero swb took a bit of a hammering last weekend and has in turn developed *some* holes. Guess it probably had some rust in it. Anyway, I've decided that the best course of action is going to be fitting a new exhaust system which will sit a wee bit higher, and with any luck breathe a bit better. Anyway, the vehicle is an 88' 2.6 swb pajero (leaf sprung). Stock engine, but it's going to be getting a weber carb soon. You made a suggestion already about an appropriate system, which would give me a slight power/torque gain (small extractors and a 2" straight through system). My point is that i'd like to bring the work to your workshop and was hoping you might be able to give me rough idea of price, and if you think anything should be changed to accomodate the weber (it's a 32/36dgv sequential). Oh and i'd like to fit an EGO sensor as well.
Thanks in advance exhaustfix.
Cheers,
mick.

I have recently fitted a pyrometer into My 2.4TD and I seem to have a bit of an issue with the exhaust temps reaching 500 would a larger straight through system fix this?
Thanks
Andrew
yes it would
by putting a big straight through system you will increase flow and this will also help with heat it will not build up as much in the system
This is on a Toyota Bundera what sort of $$$ would I be looking at?
AROUND $320.00
What would the max size pipe you would reccomend?

sudso wrote:hi Ross, I removed those perforated cone shape s/s thingy's from the Y piece in my V6 Rodeo's exhaust that reduce the diameter to about 1" and I've noticed no difference in power like others have who did it, but one thing has changed: the Check Engine Light used to come on when I ran it on LPG and go off when I ran it on petrol, since I removed the "restrictors" it does'nt come on now when I run it on LPG.
Just wondering now if those "restrictor" thingy's had something to do with the O2 sensor working correctly. The restrictors were located before the O2 sensor.
Do you know anything about it?
the internal cone may have been shaped in a way thet it was not flowwing past the oxy sencre properly

a new exhaust wont make yor power come in earlier as this is controlled by the size of your turbo
but it will make your turbo spool up quicker
and give you power gain
sorry i only work in melbourne not up to the stage of jogging systems just yet

something like 11"x6"x18'long
you can get these from most suppliers

twin turbo VN motor
, custom cam (match turbo) and slightly ported heads etc. to match turbo flow. the valve springs have been upgraded to prevent valve bounce etc. would twin 2.5 inch with 2 90 degree bends (dump and front pipe) be enough flow or should i try for 3?
also standard VS commo ute with pacemakers, dont wanna run cats and only small mufflers, should i run twin 2 inch pipes over the diff out the back or would dumping before the diff be ok? valve springs havent been modded and wont be for a while. still want the low down torque for fun off the line.
cheers
Evan

hi mitch
yes no problem before you fit the turbo get a plate cut to fit the exhaust outlet in 12mm
you can get this done at knox steel profiles barry st bayswater

with the vn it depends on what boost and what outlet size is at the back of your turbo small boost 2.5" larger boost 3"
if yu want torque dont remove cats run tails out back to get torque you need a small amount of restriction which you get with cats and the correct pipe sixe
the right way for this is running twin cats and runnig a system like a vt v8 in 2" straight mufflers

Hey Doc,
I've just recently bought a 97 2.2 petrol ford courier ute (for towing the zook). It currently has the factory exhaust.
Is there anything I can do to this system to make better use of the limited power and torque of this little engine. I will be fitting a more free flowing air filter as well but am unsure of the out side of the engine.
Cheers for any help.

a set of extractors but only small pipe sezes and a straight through muffler dont change the size of the exhaust this will help keep torque

hi
3b is never going to be a power house but you can improve it a little
all diesel engines work well with no back pressure
i would add a set of extractors and a 2.25" straight through exhaust on this car

Ross,
I have an 02 Rodeo with the 3.2L V6, just wondering what are your thoughts on the best set up for for increased horspower and torque and also make the nice engine note a touch louder
Would running a 2.5" inch from the cat back improve this or would extractors need to fitted as well?

both extractors and system will give increase but you dont have to do it all at once
i sugest do the system first and see if your happy with that before you put extractors on it

a ct20 is only small so i would only go up to 2.5" max and beeing petrol you will need a straight through muffler
