Hi Fish. From what i heard the gearboxes on the imported heads Wayne brings in had been strengthened.

A full competitor list and 4 different groups can be found http://www.outback4x4challenge.com/pdfs ... rouped.pdf

For those that don't know there is 4 main properties that the groups go to individually during the week. These are:

Viewmont - mud. Last year there was 1 night stage & 2 day stages.
Denian - sand. Last year there was 1 night stage & 4 day stages.
Nundooka - rock. Last year there was 1 night stage and 3 day stages.
Poolamacca - rock. Last year there was 3 day stages.

Others stages they compete together at Poolamacca on Wednesday & Saturday with 3 stages on each day.

Groups A & B have gone to Viewmont & Denian and will swap over tonight.

Groups C & D have gon to Nundooka & Poolamacca and will also swap over tonight.

After all groups have competed together on Wednesday they swap over groups A & B head for Nundooka and Poolamacca while groups C & D head for Viewmont and Denian.

Jonesy (Myttuf) is my main point of contact and he's leading the spectators around for group D so most of my updates will involve mainly group D teams. He's going to try and drop in to HQ when he can to get any other news.

Looks like they are going to try and put daily updates on the OBC website so check there also (even if they are a day behind  ).

*******BREAKING NEWS********

Massive storm hit Denian at about 5pm this afternoon while competitors were doing shifting sands  Rain, hail, lightening and thunder swept through the property and was still raining at the Marshals HQ 5 mins. ago

The major roads in the area are all closed and all challenge traffic has had to use station tracks to move between Denian and Viewmont :?

The other big story coming out of Denian today is Rohan Canavan & Wayne Smith's title defence maybe over  with a suspected blown head gasket and other engine related problems.

Other news from Denian include -

- Todd Robards and Ivan Vella seemed to have had a great start to the event which incuded getting 13 of a possible 18 waypoints on shifting sands.

- X-Terrian course is different this year and all competitors in group B gave it a big

- Few vehicles with overheating issues during the motorkhana.

- Phil Swindale and Warrick Dunn re-joined the group today to do the last 2 stages.

- While the Thai guys don't arrive there until tonight I was told they only had 20 litre fuel tanks  and had to search Broken Hill to buy enough jerry cans to get them through the week :D Also their rear mounted pto winches are said to be able to drag their vehicles at 40km/h

Cheers ;)

Updates from Group D who did the winch wall out at Poolamacca today are -

- Jeff Redman & Jason Forrsman busted their winch.

- Darren Green & Bruce Hughes also busted their winch and DNF'd.

- Todd & Verena Joyce stuffed a tyre during the stage but still completed it in around 5 mins.

- Greg Scanlon & Robbie Calvert set the quickest time of the day with 3mins 26secs.

Unfortunately that's all the info I got from group D.

Cheers ;)

To The Fish,

you must have Joneys on speed dial, your updates are almost before they happen!

Thanks for keeping us posted albeit frustrating as it sounds like we are missing out a unique OBC... hope everyone gets a good storm!

are you going to post while you're up there?

Talk soon.
