Mr Exahust Fix, Question, I've fitted a IHI watercooled turbo off a Mazda B6 motor (Ford TX-3 4wd) fitted it to my SOHC 16v EFi Vitara engine.
both engines are 1.6L

What i need to know is i'm making the dump pipe for the turbo out of 3"
90* mandrel bent, whats better, merging the wastegate right at the flange or run a seprate wastegate dump alongside the turbo dump and then merge the two bout half a foot down the line, been told that this setup produces more touque is that true or BS ??

The turbo also has an internal wastegate.

Also whats a good size exahust system for this ?? running max 15PSI
and only one ricer muffler on the rear

hi

to get a little more power without noise
fit a set of extractors and just change the main muffler to something of about the same size in the body but straight through do not increase pipe size this will help keep the noise and drone to a good level

extractors $320 fitted
muffler supercat scm8802 $90

hi there
on your car fit a set of pacemaker extractors and a 2.5" system
use a supercat muffler scm8802 and a berklee resenator bm444on the rear
this should cost you around $ 750

hi
when merging waist for max power you need to make the waist gate pipe at least 1/34" and have it join after the bend where it straightens up to go under your sump in other wordrs get a bit of length into the pipe
when fitting the pipe into the dump make sure it goes in on about a 45 deg angle and you have about 5 mil sticking inside the dump and it is cut on the same angle as the side wall of the dump pipe
this cereates a vacume effect and draws the gas from waist pipe

if your running 15lb boost you will need a 3" straight through system

good luck

MR EXHAUST
i have a daihatsu feroza 1.6 l petrol, it currently has extractors but im due for a new muffler/ exhaust so i was thinking around 2" with a straight through muffler, but would this be really noisy?
is there a catalyc converter from another make of vehicle that will bolt up ti give increased flow?

thanks

hi there
2" system if perfect for your car the trick is to put a str muffler in as big as you can get to help reduce noise
most cats are the same when it cones to flow except the new aftermarket stainless steel core cats thiese have about a 20-25% increase over the older style ceramic cats

I was wondering if you had any suggestions for my 3.2Ltr V6 Frontera. Maybe hiflow cats and 2 1/2 system or anything you suggest. A rough idea on price would be appreciated too.

Thanks

DO NOT INSTALL A STANDARD MUFFLER ON A BIG BORE EXHAUST SYSTEMS (exspeically the rear muffler).

i know people who have almost been killed by idiot exhaust shops who have installed poorly flowing rear mufflers on cars with big exhausts.

what happens is under normal driving the muffler flows enough, however when accelerate, ie passing a semi, the muffler can't flow enough and the exaust pipes start to pressurise. at that stage your accerateing past the semi wih ease, but when the exhaust pipes have filled up the motor states to choke itself on the backpressure which means you loose a fair bit of HP at the worse possible time.

basicly its like going from a full bore sports exhaust to a standard one when ever your been at full throttle for a short time.

bloody loud. i have an older 1.8 petrol car with extractors and 2" exhaust, front muffler straight through and rear muffler thats almost straight through and after an hours driving my ears used to hurt. i ended up fitting a third straight through to queit it down a bit.

if you have a cat converter and a very large straight through muffler on a 2" system it should be ok but if its a bit loud still you can always ad a straight through resenator in the rear to reduce the noise some more

hello Mr Exhaust

I have a 4.5 100 series on gas

I got a some pacemaker extractors fitted, with a 2.5" system , sports muffler , but i still have the end part of the exhaust which goes over the chassi and is squashed down to clear the body and chassi.

would this section that is sqaushed make much differance to performance

G'day exhaust fix :)
I need some help with my exhaust for my 40 series. to get it on the road i need to fux up the cracks in the tail pipe and either move it away from the gas tank or put up a heat shield. would you have some sort of heat shield that i could weld in. would i put it round the exhaust or the tank. also how much would it cost for you to copy the tail pipe i cut of and make a new on for me?
Cheers, Calvin
btw where is your shop? i might pop in this arvo :D

hi there

would you belive ive done this test on the dyno and to my suprise there was no power difference at all and the car was slightly better on torque
in the states all the nascars run an oval tube that looks like that pipe and they run about 700h/power through it without any loss of power

Exhaustfix,
Mate you are doing a great job here  ,keep the good work, but you almost need your own sub section or own section all together ie on the main page where the differant model are....

maybe even have a sub menu where we can post questions to suit a certain make of truck...ie Rover , Toyota, Nissan etc so its much easyer to aply info to our own models. ;)

Just think it would be easyer to follow if we clean it all up a little....if it not to much of a headake or prob for the modurators etc :?

I know you can seach a section for tips on your model but doesnt always get all posts etc...

Just an Idea...waiting to get shot down

HI THERE
IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT BOOST YOUR RUNNING
if its only around 5-8 lb 2.5"
if its up near 10-12 or higher then you could go up to 3"

with the heat shield try putting it on the pipe so it dosent get heat soak into the tank

to copy your tail about $30

hi there i am sorry with all the posts i mist yours

if your car is running twin cats there is prob no need to change unless you go to stainless steel core cats you wont get much of an increase and they are about $250 each in most cases ceramic hi flows are a bit of a rippoff

3.2 ltr is only a smallish engine i would go more for a 2.25' system and ofcourse large straight through mufflers you dont always get a big increase with big pipe you need the right pipe sixe to create the max amount of gas speed to get the exhaust out quick larger pipe makes the gas bounce inside the pipe and creates frown and the gas actually slows down
a good system from your cats about $300
with cats $800

Exhaustfix,

We often hear that a leaking exhaust flange will increase fuel consumption .

I was wondering the Tech behind this change in usage and also your advise on repairing this leak on my car.

It is a TB42 patrol with pacemaker extractors using factory gasket. It is leaking out of the top of number 1 on the head side of the gasket, no sealant was applied when i aassembled this about a year ago, is this the problem? some people recomend silicone only as a seal, what do you think?

Thanks

Shaun.

YES a leak will cause excessive fuel use and also power loss
get yourself a new gasket and a tube of ultra copper put a bead on both sides around all the port holes bolt up firm and leave for about 2 hours before starting
this should take up any veriation in the plate

Hi Exhaustfix.

I have a 2000 3.0TDi auto wagon.

I am about to put a performance exhaust on and I would like to know what you recommend.

Thinking of 3" pipes, 3" straight through GENIE muffler and Hi-flow CAT.

Would you go Hi-flow CAT or no CAT at all??

Would you put on a Hi-flow resonator??

Any assistance would be great.

Thanks in advance.
