Engines I think are 2lt Turbo'd Yanmar engines. Yanmar are a division of Toyota and mainly do Marine and tractor engines. Also heard they where out of a Celica (GT 4 maybe- that would give them the 4wd bits). But rocker covers didnt look right for a GTfour motor.
Dont really know much else about them. Other than there geared low and on the night stage at Viewmont they both had the wastegate open at max revs for the whole stage.

As for meeting the Rules. I would have to have a proper look. But I dont think they even come close.

The Turbo is a toyota item, you can read it in the photo. Yanmar motors are typically small diesels though?

I thought they where marine diesles also. Similar to the marine version of toys 1HDT out of the cruiser. Even the 1HZ has a marine version.
But thats the info I heard off someone from that group., at the OBC.

Celica gt4 this would be it , but he wouldn't be using the rear output for the rear axle , as the motor is turned side wise , to its normal orientation
Hes running the front drive shafts which normally go to the front wheels , to the front and rear diffs and what would be normally the rear output is running his winch . Same setup as rear engined moon buggys running front wheel drive motor and transaxles the addition here would be the third output running the winch ,

The reason he was on the limiter on the speed sections is these motor boxs have a 4 somthing to one final , so he dosn't have a dual range his basicaly running the same ratio as series 1 rockhopper gearing all the time , heres the best pick i could find , in the other pic its actaully the soliniod of the starter on the right.

Cool setup , read somwhere around 225hp we could make a gestimation on his top speed wonder what size those tires are ?
and the rev limiter revs ?

Yes it certainly looks like a 3S-GTE, they do have Yamaha on the t-belt cover. Maybe u just read that wrong and got confused???

Don,t know andy think Turps was going by what he was told ?

Any ways checked out the ratios for one of these and
assuming those tires are 35s , the box runs .731 fifth , 4.285 final (which becomes the transfer ratio) and a guess at the axle ratios say 4-1s

the motors rev limit 7250 rpm , gives him 96kmh top speed .

This is all a guesstimation

At work we do lots of 3S-GTE conversions and engine builds, the weirdest one was a shorty RAV4 with 205 GT-4 motor, gearbox, rear diff and brakes.

Motor is a 2.2 stroker, H beam rods, Forged CP pistons, fully balanced, Cometic MLS head gasket, ARP rod bolts, head and main studs, ported head, 600hp rated Turbonetics TO4 turbo, Turbonetics race gate, big Sard injectors and a Sparco liquid to air intercooler. Very quick car.

I have thought about putting one in a suzuki, but not using gearbox :?

RAY185 and Turbo paj of this forum have both also owned quick 3S-GTE powered celicas built by WM Motorsport.

I wonder if it would be possible to use one of the AWD box's from the road going WRC celica's ?

What does this mean?

The 3SGTE comes with a 5Speed box that woudl be plenty up to the task considerig the gearing after it.

The actual WRC celicas used an X-Trac box that would be worth many $$$$$$ if you caould find one, and they you would have a seven speed straight cut box with a magnesium case etcetccetc

I would have though the better box would be the auto from a 4WD camry with a 3SGTE (such things exist)

Steve.

God winch

Guys,

I like to venture a guess that the engine is the old favourite SR20.

During the recent Johor Challenge 2007 they have kinda equalised the field in that rigs equipped with ''God winches'' must use ground anchors and not trees.

I guess you guys can see the point.

There was quite a bad accident and now they have new rule regarding the co-driver's ''position'' with regards to the ground anchor. He's gotta be ''behind'' the anchor, not beside or in front.

The god winches are PTO winches ''generally'' driven of the t-case.

Personally I feel that such winches are not in keeping with the spirit of the sport.

Happy Wheelin....

its not a sr20 front, rear or 4wd motors.

the rear wheel drive motors have the turbo induction pipe facing forwords of the car and the starter is on the drives side down near the sump,

front and 4wd drive motors the turbo induction pipe faces the rear of the motor but the starter is behind the motor closest to the firewall.

   Well done..... I was wondering why the starter was pointing forwards instead of back.

The was an AWD version of the Celica (most likley using the same box as the camry) From memory it was the GT4 ... I dont really follow the celica's as i dont fit in drivers seat without my head touching the roof ... friken tiny low roof cars ....

Did these have a neat looking rocker cover, like most of the new motors with OHC stuff. Or something like off an old motor. Looked pretty narrow. I did look under the bonnent. And may have a pic of the motor somewhere. I will post it when I find it.
