Cool, thanks Nick! I like how u tied the top of the bar into the rear body mounts- good reinforcing above and below

Mike i know its not exactly what your after but here is a pic of one i fabbed up. Simple and effective and better yet it costs very little. It ties into body mount under tailgate and on the bottom bolts to the towbar mounts.

Looks good Sanger, just not a real 'toob' bar person myself

I like the idea of a neat, flat, shaped bar which has 90% functionality and 10% asthetics (i.e. 'looks the part'

Tube bars are cool and look good when done 'right', as does yours, They're just not for me.

They Led's you PM'd about, are you going to add to what you have on the bar already and put some in the tailgate or re-visit having lights in the bar?

Nope i am going to get rid of the toob bar and weld a haymen reece in place of the round crossmember. Ive got rid of the spare wheel on the back and will put the lights in the tailgate.

What do you guys think of these latch ideas I've come across?
The truck/container door latch or 'hook and pin' would be cool, as it would keep positive pressure on the swing arm to stay closed and keep tension on it to avoid rattling- I think...

My idea, with that in mind, would be to have a cut down bar/post, only using the bottom section, mounted vertically through the end of the swing arm (which would either be cut out rectangular tube or c-channel) and have the swiveling 'pin' part of it on the inside of the arm. I would then mount the static 'hook' part on a peice of plate steel, or something like that, to which the swing arm would then be pulled into by turning the swivel part by those hinged arms you can see on the container. I guess this would allow me to even lock or paddlock the hinged arm once it was pushed into place where truckies usually have those plastic security/tamper tags? I'm just thinking out loud- sorry if that all seems confusing...

Pics below.
And the other latch system I liked.

Is it worth putting recovery points on the actual bar or just using chassis mounted hooks? Thinking of having a box section center point, ala hayman reese style, in the center of the bar for a recovery hitch- properly mounted and strengthened. Is this a waste of time, as I've seen it on heaps of bars and would be a 'nice' addition to the setup. I'd like the ability to tow occasionally, and yes, I've read the threads on legal towing capacities- a massive 550kg's...

Thoughts on this?

If i was to make my bar again i'd be putting in a mounting for a towbar. Only cos i'd like my zook to be able to do everything possible

(i managed to pull a large paddock flattener over a plowed paddock with my old towbar before i bent it and the back of my chassis pulling out a certain pootrol...) As long as the bars all strong welds and strongly supported it should be fine for a recovery point. Jus watch out pulling out fully bogged 2.5ton vehicles repeatedly

Only winch on doubled cable for super stuck, bigger rigs is my policy and a promise of $'s for any damage caused if it's a random recovery (i.e. not someone I know). Always willing to help someone stuck- just as long as I dont bend my truck doing it...

Bit like using ur fire extiguisher on someone elses car fire- why should you cop the expense of recharging it.
Anyway, back on topic, tow hitch receiver will be a good addition to the bar I believe, just mounted and made strong is all I'll need to keep in mind.
