Yep, disconnect the sway bars (think both).
I had this argument with a certain someone the other day, they were trying to tell me the Rubicon just had bigger tyres and that mighty sticker, um no! Go to
http://www.jeep.com.au/wrangler/index.html, click on spec on the LHS, and you get to see which models get what features, you'll see only the Rubicon gets some of the really usefull stuff.

thanks i almost want one exept the price stops that real quick i can have three toys and maintain them for same sort of money but thats just me.

I asked a dealer why there was no diesel rubicon and he said it would never happen because of the extra cost.

I am waiting for the 5.7 Hemi.
The Rubi also comes standard with 4:1 reduction transfer as well as the diff locks disconnects and plenty more tricks the japs will soon copy.

some gq mavriks and patrols came with a rear locker from factory but i believe they were breaking alot..
Rubicon rear diffs break easy too i have read on jeep forums from us about the rear locker breaking with larger tyre some 35's but mostly 37's and bigger mean while the arb replacement lockers for the rubicon have been holding up well...

Rubicon also come with solid rock sliders, opposed to side steps..
All in all a great out of the box performer, The 4 door though has to be lifted or its ramp over angles as bad as the new landcruiser..
2 door rubicon from factory will go a fair few places

I just brought a JK 4 dr Rubicon to replace my aging GQ Dual Cab, and I cn't comment on it's offroad ability yet other then it seems to have all the right gear and has awesome low gearing on some crossed up grass ditch work, I've tried. The engine seems to lack bottom end torque a bit but other users tell me it's just running in.
I originally put my deposit on a 4 dr hard top standard with the adventure pack steel bumpers/sliders, but after doing my homework decided to spend the extra to upgrade to the Rubicon.
Differences between the basic Jeep and Rubicon.
I sacrificed the Hardtop to afford the upgrade, was going to add it afterwards but it was going to cost $5200 to add. and there are aftermarkets ones from around $3500, and visibility is better in the softtop even with the top on. The Rubicons seem to come as softtops from factory so don't have rear washer/wiper/demister switches.
I gained front & rear lockers and swaybar disconnects, a Dana 44 front diff instead of Dana30, 4.10:1 diff ratios instead of 3.21:1, 4.00:1 low range ratio instead of 2.72:1. So the crawl ratio is 73.1:1 instead of 38.9:1.
I added the Adventure Pack which gave me solid steel bumpers front & rear, extra bash plates underneath and double rail rock sliders better than the standard Rubicon. And the good thing is all this stuff is factory so no voiding warranty. And it's cheaper than aftermarket anyway when you price it all.
And adding an aftermarket hardtop isn't going to cause warranty issues. The soft top is nice, tight and quiet, no flapping at 120kph.
They have potential to be very capable, you can fit tube/checker plate doors and fenders when you want to play and swap back to the nice ones later. They are only limited by your fear of warranty issues and credit card payments

I am now seriously thinking of buying a JK Rubicon.. As this will be my daily driver, what are these like on road ?
I will be also taking these off road (rocks, mud etc).
It will not be a Toorak Tractor... I will use it as it has been designed.

On road it seems o handle fine, I'm not overly impressed with the 6 speed gearbox as only 6th is an overdrive so it's an extra gear to use in traffic for no real reason, I also find 6th sometimes hard to find, getting 4th or even reverse (eek) instead, but I don't do a lot of driving over 70kph to use it, and seem to be getting the hang of it as I use it more.
Also funny enough 1st gear is lower than reverse, it took me a while to find out why it was easier to drive up my sloped driveway forwards than backwards.
The bottom end torque seems to be getting better as it runs in and I get used to the clutch/throttle system, and after a couple of long runs, I still only have 1100km on it. I have fitted a set of 285/70x17 (33's)Maxxis M/T's with no problems and it hasn't lost any noticeable performance from the 32's, though I now have to fit a 1" bodylift or 2" coil/shock kit to clear the fenders for offroad use.
The throttle on JK's is a drive by wire the pedel is electronically connected to the engine computer, snd hence it doesn't always do exactly what the pedal is telling it, it seems to think about it at times for a split second or 2.
Also the chiming for doors/seatbelts is annoying, seatbelt can be turned off but not the door chime.
I reccommend lifting the carpet to check for water as I found some in the boot cubbyhole, but I haven't noticed any leaks or anymore water sisnce I took the boot carpet out.
Also the rear softtop window can be a bit annoying/slow to use as it zips upwards but isn't removable, best thing to do is either throw it up onto the roof or roll it up and put some velcro strips around it.

Oh and my fuel economy sems to be around 17-18l/100km with city driving but I have a heavy right foot, I got it down to 15l/100km on a 300km freeway trip.
I think the fuel tank is actually 85litres on exports, the brochure said something like 71l, but I put 70l in and the fuel warning light hadn't come on yet.
You are guaranteed to stall it a few times on the test drive, you do get the hang of it eventually.
Looking underneath the evaporative canister is pretty vunrable in the middle of the belly there is a kit to relocate it above the rear axle, I have but will fit after the lift kit goes in.
Fueling is interesting as you have to gradually ramp up the fuel flow to get it to fill at full speed.
Not much room to add another battery unfortunately, I have mounted one in the boot and will put a false floor in to make the boot area lockable.

I do not trust the trip computer litres/100 Km.
None of my other cars pr 4WD's had a trip computer so needed to work out the economy manually.
I think the fuel tank is 70 Litres...
Had a test drive this morning... Have to get used to the indicator lever being on the left etc. But all in all a nice car to drive. Found the suspension a bit spongy but that can be fixed etc.
As for the battery.. A second battery would be nice, but a Optima Yellow Top will be O.K

Oh yes indicator lever on the left is insane, I haven't found a right hand drive conversion kit for it yet, it drives me nuts and confusese other cars around me, it should be illegal to import vehicles unless the indicator is on the correct side of the steering wheel.

Interestingly I switch between my VW and Pootrol which have all the controls on different sides. I never mess up and confuse them. Its just the way you program your brain I guess.

I now have the hang of it fine in the Jeep, I had never driven a vehicle that didn't have the indicators on the right side in 20 years driving, but now every 2 months or so when I get do into a normal car I stuff up now, my brain seems to be only capable of learning both if I drive both regularly I guess, I now know why many people activate their wipers before changing lanes.
Some people get the hang of it fine I guess but whether that's 90% of the population that can do it perfectly, I doubt it.
We are just lucky they don't swap the brake and accelerator pedals too.

I took the new beast off road over the Austrailia day weekend up at the Springs and have to say I'm very impressed with it's offroad performance as were a fw others. We did some moderate to hard offroad traxks giving me the oportunity to test the Adventure Pack rock rails, and they did the job great.
The Traction control in these Jeeps is fantastic I would come to a point of no progress crawling then just push the pedal down a little harder and then the wizardry would cut in within a second or so and it would continue, only on a few occassions did I resort to using the diff locks, which also worked great.
The 73:1 low range 1st on Rubicons makes them near unstallable, the little 3.8 minivan motor works great with it. I was so glad with $50k of vehicle sliding along rocks in a creek bed at the way I could crawl slowly over obstacles.
I've got the hang of changing to 6th ok now, but I still am dissapointed at it's performance around 100kph, having to drop from 6th to 3rd to get any boot for overtaking. But the motor does seem to be improving, only got 1900km on it so far.
Fuel economy dropped to 11.2l per 100km on the 4 hour drive there and back with minimal use of cruise control because I was in a club convoy.
The indicators are fine now as long as I don't drive any cars with it on the other side occassionally.
The key/door/seatbelt/chimes are still annoying but I found the sounder on the back of the instrument cluster and wrapped it in electrical tape to tone it down a bit.
I was also impressed with my new 60l Waeco fridge which ran for 3 days at 1 degree C on a 4yo spare battery I had that I charged before leaving but wasn't recharged by the vehicle all weekend.

I have the non rubicon JK and they are great. I can only imagine what the Rubi would be like but the sport went well stock. All I have is steel front and rear bars and see from the pics in the link, I had a great day at Citiview.

Yep, I got the same front & rear Mopar/Jeep bars, tough as nails, your sills look very vunerable without any rockrails or at least some sacrificial sidesteps

Yeah I pulled the side steps off for the day just too see what it would be like and they are back on now. Will get the rock rails sometime this year. Love the Rubis but was just shy of electrics after massive failures in my previous WH Grand Cherokee.
Later will source the Rubi transfer case for the gearing.
