Having it in your posession (knowledge and control) nside your vehicle is not being in possession in a public place.

Probably not but it'd be classed as a consealed weapon, none the less.

i wouldnt want to chance it, its just not worth the hassle of getting in the shit if the bcaon did pull you up for it.
if i had all my camping gear in the car and i was on my way somewhere then it would be a different story, but in an empty car i think it would still be hard to fight in court.

mine just stays at home these days cause as you say its not worth the argument and the court dramas IF you get caught.

IF you havent bought one yet and you want one, come and grab my army issue machette. I dont use it anymore and soon will have a chain saw to go with my axe.

If you need to carry something for defence, carry a spirit level around, and then it is easy to contest in court as it has many uses and is easy to get away with. Many builders carry em home on the train, and their excuse is its too long to fit in the lock box on site.

I use a pretty fancy axe with some weird foreign name that is eluding my pre-alzheimic brain just at the moment. The same company make a sharpener for it, that you just run the axe backward and forward through.
It has two rolling stones on the inside that put a nice edge on it. It works so well that it even takes off any burrs or nicks that the edge gets in it.
(the brand uses black and orange as their colours and have some unbreakable acrylic/plastic/fibreglass/whatever handle.

Yay, I remembered the brand, it's a Fiskars.
The sharpener they make is great for the axe, and probably works equally well for anything you don't want a steep edge, rather than razor edge on. Pretty sure a Machette would be one of those.

Reminds me of the true story in Auckland.

Clown with a machete tries to rob a gun shop. Ends up bleeding all over the floor for almost an hour before the ambulance turns up.
It was a FBG he was shot with too.

Gun shop owner was charged with a firearms offence, got thrown out of court.

You just need a 'legal' reason to carry it... like you go 4wding and need to chop up bushes occasionally.... or you need to peel your apple and couldnt find a knife ect ect.... If the fuzz is searching your car, you probably have more problems than an old machette under the seat...

You can get small diamond hones (EZ-hone is the brand ive got i think), these little american made file type things that are great for axes, kitchen knives and much smaller to carry around then a grind stone. They come in varying coarseness too. I picked one up in the supercheap bargain bin for $15 but normally they cost more i think.

Basically like diamond sandpaper on a stick.
