ok so i have finally completed finishing them up. but boner is going to be the guinea pig (apart from myself of course). he can give me some feedback on what he thinks and ill take it from there. i am not out for making cash but reimbursement for my time and printers costs etc.
i have spent several hours on different designs such as blue face red letters, white face green. and so on.
custom gauges with images inside the gauge or a texture is possible but would take a bit longer to get made and printed up.
so far it is only calibrated for 235s but i think thats a step forward for people using 31s as they are out like 10-15kms from standard..
31s gauges will be done but only when i have time to do it. then there are all the in betweens which wont really be viable to test and make up if you know what i mean. if you dont like it flame away *puts on coat*
so yeh once i have some positive or negative feedback ill take it from there.

Kyle - still like your idea on dual speeds but will have to make that a project.. ill bother you when i need some readings. your running 31s arent you? or 32 simexs? cant remember

cheers.

they arent all that easy mate. like i said early on it has taken me a long while and i am a nerd by trade :D
its all about drawing them from scratch freehand so each image is created manually then aligned etc
if you want a particular colour scheme and wording it can be done just pm me your ideas and ill have a look.
cheers

easier then i thought! I have taken a photo with a digital camera, already made note of the new speeds i will have to mark , download images into paint prog- messed around for a bit now i have an image i can take to a sign writing place and they will digitaly print what ever coulour i want on to vinal, all I have to do is pay them $15 and cut out the speedometer holes and soforth and stick them on the original guages. sticky vinal , great stuff.
I am going for a white back ground and probably just black lines for now, I already have the blue leds replacing the tacky original dash light bulbs. Cant wait to put the new dash together, will post pics when i get around to it

Have fun, if u didnt know these are done in vector format not raster. not so simple. $15 is usually only 1 colour also not multi.

And 1.3 gauges are backlit, so you won't see anything at night.

We stuffed around with this problem with Greg's old cap engined car - the cappuccino tach face swapped straight over onto the 1.3 gauge and the cap face markings were different to allow it to read the correct RPM for the 3 cylinder.... but the lighting was completely wrong.

you'd be surprised how much work goes into getting the backlighting even across the gauge.

We worked on it for a while and it ended up OK but the red is a bit too bright.

Like I said, getting the transparency correct will be a major challenge.

Steve.

as nicbeer said its all about vector graphics.. if you take a jpeg to a signwriter he wont be able to do anything with it..
if you took pics how do you know they are 1:1? not trying to discourage you but yeh let us know how you go. good luck
gwagen - i agree on the light dispersion. lighter colours will tend not to display 100% but i would suggest when putting the new gauges in people should replace their globes etc in there.. not with blue but just standard globes would help
also the density of the paper and the quality of paper/plastic used will all contribute to your end product.
