Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I went into ARB today to ask about the CKMP12 which is the CKMA12 (the new big one) but in the portable box with with the hose and all the gear:



The website says "Available late 2007" and no-one at ARB knew anything about it. I'm deciding wheather or not to mount one in the engine bay due to the engine bay heat before i go up the beach in summer.

I had the 'new' ARB compressor installed in my engine bay today. During a quick test i did this arvo at work it pumped my 31" tyres from 29psi to 35psi in about 25 seconds. Tomorrow i'll lower a tyre to 15psi and time it. So far very impressed, it's reasonably quiet.

I've got endless air. Pumps up my 35's in about 10 seconds. I have a 10ltr tank, stainless braided teflon flexible hoses, 180psi cutout swicth etc etc.
Normally have a que of people to pump tyres up on trips.

The new pumps are pretty good. But keep in mind they are only a small electric motor in comparison to what one could run off his/her engine....

If people are calling heat issues, any reason you would put it in the engine bay instead of somewhere like under drivers seat? or is there no under seat in jeeps (never looked) like patrols..?

I was initially concerned about heat issues but it's only going to be run when the bonnet is up. There is no room under the seats unless i remove the jack etc. There's not much room in a wrangler

I tested it out today with a stopwatch and it took 2 minutes & 12 seconds to get my 31" mtr from 14 psi up to 34 psi.

how much u pay to get if tully set up ? got a pic of your mountin ?

I paid my ARB supplier/dealer $420 fully installed, and that's setup ready for air lockers. For 75L/min it's reasonably small, and quiet

how does it compare in size to the original ARB air compressors. I still have one of the early style compressors which is currently only used for diff locks, and I would like to stop carrying two compressors each time I go for a sunday drive.

Very similar, maybe not as tall as the new airtank is a bit more compact.

Hobzee if your reading would be interested in your comments on a comparison between this and the boss compressor. I dont expect it will be as quick but given the size of the boss and the limitations imposed by that, would be interested in how they compare.

Anybody had problems with there's blowing fuse's??? mines been used fark all, one trip actually, kept blowing fuse's before that, replaced the relay and stopped it, now its blowing 40amp fuse's on the spot, does it only when the compresser is plugged in, Could it only be the compressor or something else?

the new compressors bruce have got thermal cutout switches so when they overheat they will cut out. this would mainly happen if you were using it to pump your tyres from say 11psi all upto say 32psi etc.. as an example.
so i wouldnt recommend putting any compressor in the cab unless it was a comp vehicle with no interior. i couldnt think of anthing worst than the bloody compressor turning on and off every so often..

The Bushranger compressors have a 5 year warranty as opposed to the 3 year warranty of the Thomas compressors. And yes the Bushranger ones are fully rebuildable to, the warranties are also available through any automotive store throughout Australia and the world.

Just remember the compressors generate heat too, if you mount it too close to your carpet or foam underneath the seat, could have issue's. Also, remember to check if the compressor is oil-less so it can be mounted at any angle, rather than straight up.

The ARB compressor can be mounted at any angle you like. It is also sealed against moisture and dust, so with the remote mountable filter it can be put anywhere.
Just been to the 4wd show and they have them for $265. The new portable one is also on display but not available for sale yet.
