I love my sliders and use them all the time, I understand there isn't much rock in Vic steve, could this be why you aren't a fan of them?

long and short wheelbase.
Would these be modified somewhat to accomodate a 2" body lift..?

No, I'm just not a fan of getting stuck. ;)

I'd sooner have the panel up out of the way than something lower to protect something that's not worth protecting in the first place.- and in any case, I've done more damage to my front guards above the wheelarches than the sills- go figure

Yes, I'd feel differently if my car was a daily driver/neat and tidy, which is why we built CJ's the way we did, so I'm not anti sill protection, just anti sill protection that makes the car less capable.

The grey car with the sills cut out has totally conventional sliders, they're just well up out of the way.

Steve.

I see your point but in practice I'm of the opinion sliders actually make my car more capable due to the fact at the end of the day I still want to be able to open the doors and do little damage. So without them I'd be taking pussy lines or flat out not attempting stuff.

You can always cut your sills off and fit the sliders where they used to be, that way they are mounted off the chassis and still a solid jacking point. I know its not a zook, but you get the idea.

Which is what I did here:

Image

On my Gwagen, I just cut the bottom 100mm off the sill and closed it up with 3mm steel. I've managed to dent these in a few places but this is a 2500KG car.

(Not the best photo but the only one I have handy.)

off topic, but I have to ask. Steve, what the hell is that Gwagon? In the photo it kinda looks like a cross between an early Pajero and Dahatsu Rocky with a touch of something European in it.

iv gotta say, im a big fan of sliders, as you can see in the pix of my car now it has 45'd sills, but that is only because i smashed one of my sills up into the bottom of my door (which if i had sliders this would not of happened, and i still would have driven the obstacle)
the 45 is 6mm plate, but i will still be putting a slider on when i finish my build

Don't expect a response though... still waiting for you Joe to get back to me about the auto bearing housing support from May.... :? :?

For my bars I'm building something similar to the shrockworks TJ Shrockbars sill protection. here's the link. I think its one of the best solutions for a sierra if your sills are still in good nick and you'll only lose 6mm of ground clearance.

long and short wheelbase.
Are the factory body mounts strong enough to act as anchor points for sliders?

(not knocking, just asking)

1.3 and maruti chassis will be fine, people just have to make sure that they don't have a cracked front body mount cup ( i've seen a few but easily repaired). 1 litres have a mount at the front thats a little different, will wait till i chuck the longer pair on my car in a couple of weeks before i decide on those chassis. fasteners are all m10's 6 per side. try post some pics up on saturday.
