Just after 2 days I have ended up ditching the experiment
There was a serious air distribution problem, egts would rise quickly (even on a 5.00am startup) and would sit on 500 while cruising on the M4 and heaps of smoke.
The symptoms make me believe there was a cilinder or 2 not getting enough air, and probably making them run hot, even on boost.
So decided to change back before a hole was put through a piston.

Rather than chucking the whole experiment, I reckon you just need to redesign the inlet a little more, move the PS reservior and bring the hose barb forward and triangulate the gap between a bit nicer.
As for the suggestion, dow50r has given some ideas aswell, and he also thinks its #1 that has the breathing problems.
