I think that bit got misunderstood. Their quote was 1500 bucks for 40 odd hours of prep, then a separate quote for 4 hours inthe booth for painting for 6000 grand. That was the hours they wrote on the quote themselves.
I understand there's a base price for painting a whole car, and it's not going to be cheap particularly if they do the prep. I just wish that if someone doesn't really want to do a job then just tell me when i call up and explain what i'm after. Pretty much all of the places that i went to for a quotes were on the basis that i do all the prep and all they were to do was lay colour on and bake it. quotes for this alone ranged from 10k to 3750.
The guys at a custom hot rod shop who do absolutely perfect show quality work quoted 3750(which i consider reasonable for a half a day in the booth, plus labour, plus paint and shop overheads) , but a smash repair shop wants 10k for the same work. I understand if a guy can make more money doing smash repair work then he should go ahead and do it. But don't get me to chuck my cab on a trailer and bring it all the way in, just say on the phone "Hey, we're probably not interested, try some one else"
