Plus new lid as the one on it is so buckled now it doesnt close. Obviously heat in the back of the car has effected this. And the latches i cannot seem to find anywhere or some one who sells waecos to get them for me. I have been told a few diffrent things that could be wrong with it but ill be happy to use the excuse to buy a new engle as they are the ducks nuts. My cousin has one in his shop that is a bit on 30+ years old and man it is still going strong and you never hear of people having to get an engel fixed.

40 ltr arb (engel ) with 20lt two zone on top giving me alot more flexability , i simply bought the engel over the waeco due too the inside layout , i didn't like the layout in the waeco (personal preference )
no dramas with the engel , would buy the same again .

i got a 60 ltr trailblazer and hasn't missed a beat. even after my 16foot caravan rolled over the top of it and left a hole the size of your head in the van!
Mine usually lives on the back of my 4wd even when we are out doing stupid things. Regardless of mud or rain, the fridge is on the back.
The made out of 2 mm marine grade aluminium, and even after 25 yrs they can still be rebuilt using the same shell. i used to work there and they are one of the very few that can claim in 43 degrees, the will shut down because the are so effecient.

most people who see a trailblazer and read the specs, buy one and never turn back. In 25yrs i beleive they have only had 1 or 2 not happy people because when something goes wrong they will fix it. Garanteed

But when your engel is 20 years old and still going strong, you'll have bought another 4 waeco's :D
I would say you are a little pro engel
I bought my engel of an old couple who....traded up to a new engel :D , when I was 18 and to poor to buy a new one, 6 years ago

The ONLY issue it had, is the current draw is approx. 5.5A when the comp. is running and my old boys 10 year old is about 2.5 and his 2 year old is 1.5A, which is alot easier on your battery's

The fridge is 20 years old now, and still working pefectly, can't complain with that............
there is no arguing that 20 or even 10 years ago engel was the only way to go I feel that waeco has closed the gap and I payed $710 for my 40L.
I would say that I use it 60 to 70 days in the year and 80% is on the beach so I liked the plastic more . My cousin has the engel 39L on the back of the ute for 5 years now no drama. His camping is a 110L waeco he loves the islands so he went plastic as well. The other + is that the 40L waeco is the lowest power user 21 A/H that is why I would get 1 more if we were on longer trips with no 240.
Cheers

the only real draw back from the twozone that i find is you carn't see the temp display (but were gunna get internal/ external thermometer )

according the the two zone brochure it doesn't draw much more currant in fact they claim it draws less in some circumstances if i remember correctly . but the fact that when you open the lid to get to the top half to get a drink or what not you arn't letting all the colder air from the bottom section out as much . i have had the fridge for about a year but the two zone is only one week old tomorrow , but has been used 3 times since than and im glad i got it .

cheers

Got a 40 ltr engel. Had a 40 litre Waeco when they first came out - shove it up ya ass, nothing but troubles.

Cant remeber which way around it is but 1 (engel or waeco ) uses less power on start up and more to maintain the temp then the other. so they work out pretty much the same power draw.

40 litre Engel, just love it.
I was doing tours through the NT with 2 Waeco 110 litre units, they work fine as long as you can put up with the catches breaking continuously, the lids warping and the occasional thermostat failure.

Strange. I know of 1 dead and 1 faulty engel.

The efficiency is about the same between them. Insulation is the main decider, and engel and waeco are on par.

Engel runs on 80?V internally, so needs step up electronics / inverter to run. Waeco just runs voltage into sealed Danfoss compressor. Simpler.

Im running a 55L ebay special its got the same compressor as the danfoss and it runs at just ove 3amps its a 60 watt unit and it works a treat dose me and my 2 kids we went away for 10 days and it didnt miss a beat and the kids loved eating ice creams wile watching the bush telly .....

I keep at least 6Liters of water frozen in 3Liter bottles in the bottom and use a peice of ply over them and any other things that need to be kept frozen this works the best ive found and i use an ice kool esky for drinks and rotate the 3litre ice blocks each day from esky to freezer all up the freezer and esky cost me under 700 bucks

harden the fark up and use an esky, nothing better than rancid sausages and warm beer when you camping. It's all about as being as gross as possible without dying.

Maybe when I'm old and have kids my opinions will change.

MattGU wrote:I have and 68 litre Explorer Fridge Freezer (the new model is 70 litre). It is great, when I was single could live out of it for weeks on Cape York and still keep plenty of drinks cold and will freeze down fish fillets to bring home. With 2 of us it still has heaps of room 10 days on Fraser and couldn't eat all the food that was in it. Has survived for 5 + years in the back of 2 different utes, 4 trips to Cape york etc etc hasn't missed a beat.

We've got one of the newer 72 litre Explorer, dual thermostat, approx 20 litre freezer and 50 litre fridge (or something like that). Brilliant unit however with wife and 3 kids we also have the usual fridge in our Caravan for when we are up the beach PLUS a gas powered 35 litre Chescold that we use ..... can never have too much fridge room unless you don't partake in the odd beer or fifteen :D

42lt bushman on the tray(had a few thermostat probs replaced control/thermostat/loom with evercool parts)
18lt waeco in between seats in cab(perfect fit holds 25 cans)

love having two fridges, use the back one for food and a few beers and use the front for drinks only. nothing better then being able to grab ice cold drinks while on the move!!!

more than enough fridge room for me and g/f.
