great post Unimog
Australia is a little behind the times with Seat Belts & safety gear
from what i gather the First seminar held late last year ( 2007 ) by the Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety ( AIMSS ) is planing to address a lot of the issues & bring the standards inline through most forms of Motor Sports
more info on the AIMSS can be found here
http://www.aimss.com.au/
for me seatbelts or any safety equiptment should not be concidered on a price basis as the old saying goes, What price would you put on a life
for me i prefer the Simpson brand of harness but there is nothing wrong with other brands such as Diest, Impact, DJ Safety ect...
the reasons i prefer the Simpson product is
1/ it has a proven track record
2/ it is built as ordered & not sitting on a shelf for 12 months if you order correctly
3/ I prefer there locking mechanism over other brands
4/ i have easy access to there complete range of products
5/ they have a large range of different belts as opposed to one size fits all
6/ they have been around for years bit still invest in product development
6/ they exceed most of the saftey requirements set down buy most governing bodies
have a look at a lot of the Drag Race vehicles that we have in our country & see what they use, some of these cars run at speeds in eccess of 300MPH & yes some have hit walls or broken in half at that speed & the drive has Walked away
thats good enough recomendation right there
