Ran it all day today - and it ran out of oil. 
Thats' a lot of hours - but it means that continual maintenance is going to be needed for a "reliable" setup, and thats really not the goods.
Its next home is in the bin and on with the endless air.
So after a fair bit of actual experimenting I don't believe that VANE type aircon compressors make good 4WD air compressors.
