Do you know what to look for? the pics aren't the best but it looks to me like there are some marks on the flanks of the teeth and some and funny edges on root of the the ring gear teeth.

General consensus in these cases will be "put it back and see how it goes" but if it lets go you were warned.

PS how hard did you look for cracked teeth? The two cracked teeth on my rear diff were VERY hard to spot even in strong sunlight but they're there....

Steve.

The guy over the road is a mechanic and he said the teeth where all good looked at it for about 20 minutes....

The inside of the locker is apparently fine! :? I know nothing at all about diffs but....

Hopefully i can get these springs or a lockrite will have to do.

Well after calls to Eaton(Who makes the detroit) in the states and a heap of supliers in the states and here i have finnaly found a place who will make the springs for me!

The locker hasn't been made for 10 years and parts for 8!

Diff places and a heap of 4X4 shops couldn't help me out so i rang up a mate who is in the sheet metal fab bussiness and told me the spring maker to try!

In 30 seconds they garenteed me they could make the spring!

Long time comin BUT i'll be back on the road soon!

good to hear the car will be back on the road soon!!

does anyone elses lockright make clunking noises? ive just had mine fitted and it makes clicky noises sometimes but also clunking noises when on and off the throttle in turn etc, i expected the clicks no worries, but the other ones sound voilent?? the car still runs fine and i can chirp tires if i feel the need but what could cause this?

would a better oil minimise it??

thanks  sorry to hijack if i have but the info mite help urs out too :)

You will get the click if you turn a corner with the clutch in!

The clunking mine used to do it(Detroit) But sence being put back together and the backlash being set back properly i only get it every now and then!

Although i drive it differntly now....... all the stress i put mine through cost me pretty much a whole near every thing in the rear and i didn't want to open up the front....

I'm no diff guy by any means but i reckon your backlash could be set wrong! :?

ohhh i see - sometimes the click is ok, but then there is a violent clunk sometimes. ive only had it in the car a few days.. backlash hey... something to look at

ps i never turn a corner with the clutch in, all braking, gearchanging etc has been done before i enter the corner, so the car is pretty much just going around or throttleing out

backlash....!! any other ideas? :?

I get the same thing sometimes, witht he design of these being pretty simple I think the loud noises are just from it engaging and unengaging whilst under a little load from cornering and accellerating. Mines done it for over a year since I've own it.

That is how any sierra 4 pin centre looks like. If it has a detroit, it is acutally a detroit EZ-Locker, which is a totally different thing to a proper detroit locker. A EZ locker or lock-rite or a detroit soft locker is fitted inside the standart centre. A proper detroit locker acutally replaces the centre.

This is a proper detroit locker

just took mine for a drive, very little clunking - i had to adjust my driving style slightly but seems i have it sorted now - only problem is when it does clunk there is always a pedestrian nearby who looks aat me like the axle exploded. picked up some 85/140 penrite today, hope that quitens it down bit!!

the first time i parked mine at work, about 5 different guys said i have a blown CV, i told them it waas just the locker, and some of them still dont belive me, mind u i do roll in to the park with the clutch in..hehe,

sometimes i get a violent 'click' out of mine, when 'coasting' thru some turns, but i thinkg the backlash is out in my rear :bad-words:

Sorry Suzuki Boy, the no-spin is different in looks from the standard 4-pin carrier. Its the lock-right and ez-locker that look the same. my bad

From my experience with the lockrite in mine it will only clunk when you coast into a turn then accelerate half way through. it might be the locker re-engaging locking the whole diff and you might feel a kick to the outside of the turn as the inside wheel starts pushing at the same speed as the outside wheel...

Yeah or your in a underground car park and doing a tight turn and the locker unloads and you get a massive bang, and everyone is thinking you just killed your 4by...

The Hotdog guy at Bunnings nearly always says something is wrong with my 4by and each time I have to explain to him what a locker is and he still don't get it.

i picked up some 85/140 (as specified in the lockrite manual) penrite hypoid oil which is thicker to see if it quietens it down a little as its only running 80/90 castrol at the moment.. filler plug wont budge tho so ill prob have to pump it in again, takessssssss aaaaaaagggeeeesssss!
