i to drive an extreamly moded sierra but i knew how to drive and had a fair bit of off rd experiance b4 i got it. the reason i said go step by step it ppl get a faulse sence of sacurety because the car is so capabale and goes anywere they point it then they get them selves into a whole heap
of shit wen they drive up a mad ass hill and cant turn round on the track and have to go bakwards all the way to the bottom

If I could suggest something, it would be start reading a 4WD magazine regularly. I reccomend 4wd Action (formerly 4wd monthly) as it tends to cater for noobs and you will learn alot in just a few issues.

OK thanks guys and yes alien i will be going for the 215/75r15 on the stock rims but only if i need new tyres but i will be doing Wheeling on it fully stock.

And alien my mates and i live in York and there are the plenty of tracks just out of town and plus the catchments roads to the back of mundairing weir are all around here so we go on them alot up here and they are good fun. Also wade and i will hopefully going to Lancelin if it inst closed yet and if it is we will go to Guilditon but somewhere near the beach.

Also alien if you ever want to go wheeling with us just let us know and we will organize something. That is if you want to LOL

mate, im sooo close to having my zuk ready to roll and i'd love to come explore some track with you (i have to re-learn to drive mine too!).

Keep active up here - once im done im going to try organise a zuk meet to just do some soft tracks around sawyers/mundaring (nothing too extreme just yet).

Yeah i would love to come to a Zuk meet would be wicked and would be a great chance to get the feel for my Zuk and plus i may be moving back to Perth for work so should be able to.

And i am sure if you want to go a 4wding trip we can meet in Sawyers or Mundaring but ill have to come in wades car since i don't have my licence yet but will get it in 3 months (YES) i am sure we can make it.

i should be up on that too.

def if first car also and not a lot of track and road experience, drive it stock or near too it first. then u can drive a bit stupid and it will handle it. i never broke driveline when mine was stockish (225s) and driving it hard inc heaps of airbornes.

u will then have expereience to mod and drive to suit the conditions and mods.

as with mine i wont let anyone drive my zook as it handles very different to the old zook with the welded rear and locked front and 1.6

Yeah i will come for any Zuk meets in Perth or surroundings and i reckon it would be a great way to get some more skills and get the feel of my Zuk as well as meet new people in the process.

Also since there is a fair amount of West Aussie's on here. Can you guys tell me where i can find some cheap 215/75r15's don't mind if the are second hand as long as they have a good amount of tread on them and have a good pattern on them.

you can get 2nd hand rubber from Roll Right Tyres in balcatta, hard to get 4 of the same though (usually u get 2 of the same). That and you dont know what you're getting in a 2nd hander (old tyres dont grip so well).

I really recommend Greenwood Tyre & Exhaust, great prices and customer service - the manager is a good friend who is also a 4wder.

LOL i was at dads and i was getting into bed and found glass all through my bed and someone had thorn a rock though my window.

And dads work car got broken into and they stole stuff of little value and didn't take the power tools.

And dad gave some guy a lift to the Warrick train station and he stole the cordless drill from the back seat after dad was so nice and gave him a lift.

Also good news fellas!! i can get Lockright lockers from Rocky Road Outfitters for 317.54 Bucks Aus including postage! But i am not sure if it will get through customs without a hitch or will i have to pay for it or something like i herd some dude had to?!?!?

But besides that i am still happy i can get them from the states for half the prices of the ones from aus (Go Figure )?

I will wait to get lockers though till i have been driving stock for awhile as well as waiting for the exchange rate to go up to try and save on money (Cheap me ) but yeah once i get the Zuk and have been 4wding on stock for awhile ill get lockers and try for a time with a good exchange rate to save more money . But if you really think about it, it is really smart to wait for good exchange rate before buying stuff from the us.

Also was wondering if i chose the right locker? Cause on Rocky Road it says it for a Suzuki Samurai the US version of a Sierra, but this is fine for a sierra right? i also picked the ones without couplers? Is that ok?!?!?

Cause i am doing what Steve said to do which is better tyres and rear locker. So right now i am looking into lockers since i will be getting new shoes for the Zuk asap. And i hope i made the right chose. But if i didn't it's ok because i have got it in my cart and haven't actually paid since i don't have the Zuk yet but i am making choices in advance as i like to plan ahead! Mainly for money wise its way easier to have a plan then to save more money to spend on the car then to have to save in a hurry.

yes good idea to buy the lockrite locker for the rear first off. yes your correct in buying WITHOUT coulpers, not needed.

ok i am bringing up my dead thread but i got some more questions!

ok well i have been doing lots of research about mods.

just now i got one more question.

but my next question is that my cousin gave me his old hotdog from his lancer.

Now it is 2" but i am thinking off putting it on with some 4 - 1 extractors without a cat converter to increase flow then straight out the back(even though its illegal). So it will be 2" extractors through to a 2" hotdog then straight through out the back without anything.

Now this is just a THOUGHT and i trust you guys advice so thats why i am asking if this will be a good setup or if i should just leave it stock or if you have any other ideas for exhaust setup.

Next part is.

A mate of mine has a TD cortina and he is putting in a 3.9 eb motor and such into it. And right now the EB motor has a stage 3 cam in it. And it made me wonder if i can put a new cam into the Zuk??

Now the question is a two part question.

Part 1 - how much will this add to the performance of the Zuk.

And Part 2 - would i be better off just buying a new cam or just getting the Zuk one reground to a stage 2 and if so how much will this set me back for each one??

And last and not least i am wonder how much MORE power i would get out of these mods, what would the power differences been i know they will add more power if done right. But how much more power? Like a stock Zuk is around 47 Kw what would it be roughly after all these mods?


So they are my question and if anyone can answer them would be very appreciated as always and taken onboard.

First up decide what type of driving you will be doing and where you want the power band. Power up higher in the revs would be great on the beach but no fun on rocks etc.
I have 4 into 1 extractors and 1 3/4 exhaust with high flow muffler, not sure if there was a power gain? But can say my old uk had same setup but 2" exhaust and I had to wear ear plugs on the highway!
Cant comment on the cam Ive never try bt try www.zuwharrie.com.
As for the weber form stock to weber jetted for cortina (wrong for zuk) it was about the same as when I later swapped from 1300 to 1600. Then when you jet it right they really go they do have some probs offroad that need to be adressed.
I havnt run the 38/38 yet but Ive used the 32/36 for the last 10 years on 2 different zuks.

Yeah i though it might have been that noisy and plus i just measured the hotdog and it is actually 1 3/4" not 2", so i will probably go with 2" extractors then make rest of system 1 3/4. Which pritty much means the exact same setup as before but in 1 3/4" not 2". But as always if anyone has an ideas or draw backs about this setup please just let me know as its always helpful.

Its not a Weber jetted to a cortina that i was going to put onto the Zuk. i was using my mates cortina as an example for the Cam question and not the Weber question. but thats cool i think your probably still confused from the "Weber on a Sierra" Thread.

and with the 32/36 i think i might just go with that not the 38/38 since i have don't some more reading about it and it sounds like a better choice to me.

Dude unless you want to wear earmuff every time you get in then don't use that exhaust setup.

Extractors are a good thing but no cat is pointless except to save money, 2 inch high flow cats cost bugger all and the 1kw saving you'll make without one will be outweighed by the massive EPA fine you can get.

Also hot dog muflers don't exactly muffle much at all, they are usually just added to dull the noise of an already muffled exhaust a little. My zook has a 2 inch zorst with genie headers (modded to suit GTI flange) with hig flow cat and full size straight through muffler, it is stupid loud to the point it annoys the shit out of me and I love loud cars. I reccomend a setup like mine but with a turbo muffler or whack the hotdog on the end to make it a little quieter.

Well i am NOT quite sure if its a hotdog or if its a resonator, mainly because its about 2 1/4 feet long and is the shape of a "Hotdog" (LOL) but i am not sure which it is; either a hotdog or a resonator. Is There anyway to tell which it is.

Also last night i was thinking about my setup (which my dad suggested) and i am trying to think of a new setup which INCLUDES a hiflow cat converter.

That'll probably be a resonator, which will still be stupid loud as the aren't really designed to muffle at all but what they do do is remove that annoying droney tinny noise. A "hotdog" is a small muffler that is usually not very long and not much bigger then the internal pipe diameter.

Yeah i think it may be a hotdog since its only about 3" maybe 3 1/2" in full diameter and is only 1 3/4" pipe through it and plus it has heaps of little flanges on the inside of the hotdog/resonator. Which make me think it is a Hotdog not a Resonator but i am no expert.

225 75 15's bfg muddys would be the way to go for tyres they fit on a stock zook and you only need to mod the bumper. Like everyone says go on a few trips with it stock before you buy anything so you can see what other peoples zooks go like and what mods they have done. I went out and got a sr5"calmini lift, 31mtrs as soon as i got my zook and was never happy with them the lift was WAY to stiff and flexed like shit (over 5 years later and it is still stiff as shit and i have taken the shackel reverse mounts off), the tyres were shit in mud (what i mainly drive).

I think you missed what I was getting at. If your like most of us and spend maybe $50 on a 32/36 weber of a cortina intead of $500 for a new one, you will get a big increase in power. But if you tune the weber to YOUR motor it will go even better.
Alot of people dont take the time to tune it just slap on a 2nd hand carb and call it good enough.

i took mine to that little carby place in balcatta near the 7mile inn - that guy is a carby genius - he installed and re-jetted my weber to perfection - it doesnt even ping on 92 ron fuel!!
