Well i just contacted an engineer in Adelaide and he said with my 4 inch lift and my tyres all i have to do is pass a stability test and get my speedo recalibrated and he will pass it....as long as its stable at 110km/h passing another vehicle...I found an engineer who is into 4wdriving....

So you and your engineer is now agreeing it's not legal without certification?

its not legal with the 4 inch lift....tyres are legal ...as long as they dont hit the suspension or body....just need to get speedo checked to make sure its not out by 7%...if it is then need to get it recalibrated...

-Scott- wrote:We're arguing over a pdf on a toyo website? Look at the date on it - December 9, 2005. Yeah, that's a good source of legal information.

But you're right - what the hell would I know? I've only had my 4by modifications inspected and approved in 2 states. How many modifications have you had approved. In how many states?

This time last year my 4by had Queensland Registration. It now has SA registration, fully engineered with suspension lift, no rear sway bar, body lift and tyres 3" larger than standard. (Note: that's since your Toyo PDF was published.)

No, I did no research for this.
No, I didn't speak to SA Transport.
No, I didn't have long conversations with engineers about the NCOP, and whether I could go down a size in tyres and save myself some time, effort and money.

You said it yourself, do some research before you post on the internet and make a complete and utter tool of yourself. And I'll give you a hint - just because you read it on the internet, it doesn't mean it's true. Most of it is written by uninformed fools who have absolutely no idea.
Rocky8 wrote:...no wonder the 4wd action forum is better....
If it's so good why did you feel compelled to come here to ask your question? Could it be that OL is the best source of 4x4 technical information in Australia? Obviously not, because we're all wrong, and the guy who came here for help knows more than we do.

Rocky8, your arrogance is only surpassed by your stupidity. I hope you have a big dick, because it would be a cruel quirk of nature for one person to be so unbelievably stupid, AND have a small dick.

Now go away, N00b! :finger:

Have u checked the date on your link Sep 2003 ....your abit out dated there.....at least im getting a good laugh out of this....like i said...do some research before you post another incorrect comment....Scotty...

Did the Engineer give you any idea as to what the maximum tyre size he would OK was ?

If you can get bigger than 31's approved it would be well worth doing up front - even if you have to borrow wheels and tyres.

Would be fun to see the look on the Police's face when you point out your running SMALLER tyres than you can - not bigger.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

Can go upto to 33's but they would scrub on the leaf springs on full lock...I went on the explorer oz tyre calculator and typed in 31x10.5x15 which is imperial measurements....and it said my tyres in metric were equivalent to 265/75/R15...if so then they would be legal anyway...sorry about the bulls**t b4....just getting a little depressed about not being able to drive my 4by....bought a highly modified VL Turbo after i got defected and i hate it...too powerful and too low...so its for sale or swap for another 4x4..rather go slow and be sitting up a bit higher....go to the 4wd action shed and check out the feroza called minidozer...its got 33's and supercharged engine...looks bloody awesome...and also there is nothing wrong with autos...

BTW, I just had a good read of that PDF link posted. I think you'll find they will be the current regs on this topic, regardless of the posted year of 2003. These docs rarely get updated by the RTAs and I'd be surprised if you could find one more current than that.

I think I would be using the details from the rta site over a tyre manufacturer/fitter, regardless of what your eng is saying. I'd be thinking he is unclear of the current regs too.

Still it would be quite an achievement to easily get a Rocky engineered on 33's even if you had to limit the available steering angle.

Even legal 31's would be good.

Wonder where he put the supercharger can't see from the engine pic. I assume the orange thing is an air cleaner and the pipe across the engines front is the intake but cant make out a blower ?

All that Allan Whitaker Said from transport sa was that the 31x10.5x15 inch tyre is the same as a 265/75/R15...which is legal on my 4x4...The engineer who I rang was a 4x4 owner and he said if u can prove that your car is stable and your tyres wont hit the body or any other components while turning or 4x4ing then he would approve my 4x4 even with the 4 inch lift its got...just got to pass the swerving test as well at 110km/h...if it doesnt pass that...then i have to do a full offroad test...also need to check the speedo....if its out by more than 7% ....it needs to be recalibrated...altogether...if i need to do all the tests ...it will cost about $900....If it passes the swerve test....it will cost $650 and if my speedo doesnt need to be recalibrated...it will only cost $475...His name is Rory Thompson...If anyone in Adelaide with a fourby needs an engineer...go see this bloke...

Rocky8, you're funny.

So you asked if 31's were illegal.

Then got into a massive argumnent with, well, yourself, or someone, or everyone, about it

now you have found out they are illegal, without a cert.

Well done!

Please stop posting nonsense on this forum.
