TURBO SET UP FOR STRAIT GAS TB42
A GT3582R with a .84 turbine housing is a good choice, the 1.06 would be a bit laggy yet I tried that on my old TB42 Gas turbo and it was good and behaived more like a big naturally aspirated engine and less like a turbo with that agressive power band (I changed to the .84) . Smaller housings and turbos are very agressive and can be quite ordinary to drive, they spool hard at very light throttle openings and create high exhaust temps and high backpressure meaning they restrict power and have shorter turbo life. I ran on 15 psi with a stock 300 000 klm engine and a set of valve springs. I had at times run up to 20 psi but found it to be crap off road, to agressive.
I opened the exhaust valve clearance to 0.4 mm instead of 0.38 due to the extra heat causing the exhaust valve to grow.
I ran my old car for 3 years without an issue and sold the motor/turbo where it ran for another 1-2 before the new owner had issues. Many issues are maintainence related.
I've turbo charged quite a number of these and with the right mods they are reliable and powerful and have a great deal more low down torque than the RB30 due to the larger capacity.
