I tend to think that these are now pitched at 2 slightly different markets.

I reckon the STT A3 is now more of a smooth touring mud tyre, and actually I think the STT A3 and the ST are starting to merge into similar territory with the ST being an agressive AT type of tyre. I think the STT A3 is heading in the same direction as most muddies - ie less aggressive thatnmuds and more suitable for touring.

The BFG MT KM2 looks like its still heading in the direction of a maximum traction offroading but still a streetable tyre unlike the Krawler.

I got a price from Widetread for some BFG muds 33x12.5x15and they were about $260
He said the new patter will be available by the end of the month at around the same price.
Although they look good I'm not convinced they will be better.

I think you're right. I think the MT/R created a new market segment of "aggressive A/T" aimed at more than simply mud - so such tyres are not as good in mud, but good everywhere else.

If mud's your thing, I think the BFG M/T is the best tyre short of the Claws/Swampers/Boggers class.

I don't think they will all be $400. The price given at the start of the thread for a 17" tyre is comprable to the price of a current KM tyre. You have to compare tyres of the same size. I would expect the new 33 to be about the same price as the old 33. But remember that they are owned by Michelin.

Those prices were for the Krawler and correct.

The tyre is now markes "Closeout" whatever that means, and also that there are only 3 remaining in stock.

They only lasted 27K miles but thats about 7K more then I'm going to get out of these BFGs :shaking:

So before you believe all the smack talking about how great these are take what people say with a grain of salt.

I still think they are a rock crawling tyre, that's what the crawler is aimed at and the KM2 is it's direct decendant. Why they call it a mud terrain is beyond me compared to some dedicated mud tyres the tread is completely different. IMHO if you want a decent tyre for on/off road there are heaps better designs than this out there, ie: micky thompsons etc.

Personally for the money they are asking for the KM2 I'd go a bias competition tyre like the pedes.

I said that cause to me it look like a tread that would have alot of trouble self cleaning. I would rather go through a muddy swamp with the old style tread as it looks like it has better self cleaning outer lugs.

IMHO I think it should be labelled Rock Terrain.

Realistically hard tread should last longer than soft tread in the same application if treated right.

Don't some tyres have a silica compound that is softer and more durable.
Different tread patterns would also wear differently. I am not saying that this review is right just making a point which is probably wrong but making it anyway.
