220kms til out of fuel
You can check if it's going into closed loop by monitoring the oxygen sensor voltage at the ECU. In open loop it will be a constant voltage, in closed it will cycle up and down (between roughly 0 to 1V DC from memory?) If it's at either end of that scale then its in open loop. Full throttle or cold coolant temp will drop it out of closed loop.
You'll need to get the temp problems sorted first as there's no way it would be going into closed loop from what you've said.

Yeah no worries - I reckon getting the thermostat on there will be a big step in the right direction.
Try and keep the thermostat as close as possible to the block (i.e don't run it too far along the pipe) or you could find the motor runs hot.

Yesterday i actually shadeclothed the entire front of the zuk, behind the bar work, basically where the stock bumper used to go - its well hidden by the bar and doesnt cover the grille... I did this purely because with this colder weather the zuk is getting way too much air under the bonnet and barely breaking the "low" line on the temp guage... now with shadecloth it sits parrallel with the low line, so about 5-6mm up. Thats just below where it ran in summer.

The worst thing about censorship is ███████.
mine never overheats - and its running cheap coolant in a stock 1.3l radiator on the vit 1.6 engine... i even drove 10km in low range on a 25+ degree day in the sun and it never broke the half way line.
i'd suggest getting your thermostat and radiator checked.
This said though - we all know how dodgy the fuel sender is, how accurate is the temp guage on the dash???

I noticed in the snake thread that the elbow into your throttle body is a bit smaller diameter than the throttle body. This might be upsetting things a bit, especially with such a close run to the air filter.
Just a thought. It shouldn't make a heap of difference, but won't be helping.

Tonight i have finished the new piping with a thermostat!! Will put up pics tomorrow.
Test run in driveway up to temp all is good. When it raised up to temp, it sits half way max on sierra guage. No leaks and was idoling too low when up to temp, so raised the idol screw alittle so its about 850/900 now instead of 200.
Also before there was like residue coming out of the exhaust(Probably fuel), Now non-existant.
And now has a different exhaust note through the revs now
The test run was all good, Ran it around up and down still sat on half, Got onto a freeway and she went like a dream, smooth as to 120 (prob 130) temp just sat on half.
The thermostat said 88 degrees on it, so im guessing thats the norm running temp 4 a baleno.
Now hopefully my problem has changed, yet to figure out a good run in kms...Have to fix the fuel gauge, when nearly empty it raises up to 1/4. When full its dead empty!

your fuel tank wires may be inverted
My tank guage never passes the half way mark but reads empty when nearin empty.
Always been like that, never bothered fixing it as i will eventually go fuel injected, i just fill it up and keep an eye on the odometer.
lets hope you get it below the 15l mark (then we can get it closer to 12!)

Tis a different story when wheeling in heat that is 35 degrees in the shade. I'm gonna buy an alloy radiator from low range soon and try it with my thermo and if it doesn't help then buy the thermo with shroud from them. True - on those hot summer days the temp does climb - but never enough that i have to rethink the hill im climbing - although sometimes once we get to the top we have given the zuk a "rest" cos the engine temp reached half way...
This said though - when my engine reaches half way on the guage you just cant hold your hand on the bonnet - its way too hot! (no insulation on bonnet).

A standard sierra has 1 wire going to the fuel tank for the float level. It did work with the old motor.
My Coily tank is using that same 1 wire for the original float out of the old tank, But i also have the efi pump inside = 3wires all up.
If i had the pump wires mixed up, Why would that make a difference?Would'nt the pump run backwards?

1st full fuel consumption test was 258kms.
I filled up on Friday night, went for a drive down the coast, bout 60kms with a massive headwind blowing the car around, But other then that, normal relaxed driving for the rest of the test.
Also i would like to work it out, i have 33"s now(*really 32") and 6.5.1 gears, so what distance would it more likely be on my odometer? More kms im guessing..

I tend to fill up and set the counter to 0. When i hit about 100kms i fill up the tank. I note how much fuel it took and divide it by the distance i travelled. If you get consistant numbers than you can work out an average.
Still think you should fit a dfferent air filter and have the air plumbed to the factory locatn behind the batery, and does your engine have a MAP sensor? i know the gti's have MAF

This comes up regularly - transfer gears HAVE NO EFFECT ON SPEEDO ACCURACY - tyre size and diff gears only effect speedo readings, so if you have 32" tyres - you're nearly 25% out, so your 258km is closer to 320km.
