Strange Rover wrote:Also you would want the rigs that the sponsors chose to be published (and the voters selection and last years selection as well) so that they would be less tempted to give rigs that just ran their products an entry and would be more inclined to select rigs that are going to produce a great event. I would think that the sponsors would choose rigs that will produce a great event anyway.

If they were to ban winching then they would have to be very carefull on how the tracks were designed to have obstacles that became progressively harder. Classic example is rocky horror and mini wiraby. Both these courses had the hard part mid section and would DNF most competitors at that point. If these stages had the hardest part at the end then they would work awesome without any winching. Rigs wouldnt be able to wuse out and winch the hard parts either. Would make for a better event.

The courses need to be shorter and harder. They shortned the tracks from the first event for tuff truck 2 and they should do the same again. Shorter tracks also mean easier recovery. The tracks should be setup with this in mind. They could also have a few more stages if they were shortened and recoveries were made easier.

And of course the stages should be harder - alot harder. I want to see Antunac and Dobbin really have a go and use some of that horsepower that they got and break their shiat all over the place.

Fawk yea!!

Why not have a 3 round series??

Winners go to the final which is THE TUFF TRuCK event... No Voting, no just entering.. prove your vehicles worth..

And if you blow a gearbox, you dont tow it home to fix it, BAD LUCK YOUR OUT...

why not a 3 round event leading up to TT? Because it has been so hard just getting the third TT happening let alone trying to get three other events up and running

over time this would be a tops senario however. that is the BEST way to ensure the vehicles competing are really the best. This year you could get 10 - 15 proven rigs by choosing, say, the top 3 placings from woodpecka, outlaw class at Nissan Trials and the XRCC rounds.

Im not a competitor (as yet) but just a fan keen to see the genuine BEST RIGS in our country.

The more fair dinkum the selection process, the better calibre of rigs you will attract.

ALso i agree with Sam re the winching issue.
Lets see Dobbin raise a sweat.
This year should also be good to watch the big rigs vs the compact rock rigs

Bring it ooooonnnnn

Well i agree say no to winching (/) , Winchs are recovery gear if you are using one you have failed your attempts and are recovering .

The only penaltys should be disqualification for braking bunting or moving Cones.

Making the time out time longer, The track has the pionts as usual .

The winner of the section is simply the highest pionts , or if more then one finish the section, the lowest time .

No other penaltys to screw the scoring up . Like taking reverse or to many back and fills .

Oh one more thing Dick driving gets expulshun

KISS

And What i would really like to see  Is when the vehicles are scrutineered A stock is taken of the spares carried on the vehicle and tools, These can be checked on at any time by the scruts during the comp , if the list comes up short your Out, If you break your shit and don't have the spare in your list can't bogey it with same , then you have to run broken or forfiet .
Bit like the euro bike enduros.

Mmmm lets see some of em keep there shit from grenading without there nurse string (cable)

repairs should be allowed, otherwise when some one in a jap truck breaks a cv, they are out, so they will take it easy. if they know they can replace it for the next round, they will go harder. otherwise, there will be a container load of 2 1/2 ton rockwells coming out for the event. but i agree, winching is boring, slow, and unsafe.

I thought i would never say this but i totally agree.

only problem is that they have troubles organising one comp on one weekend, let alone 3

i argge with sam , that way everyone gets a say.

its called TUFF TRUCK , so who cares about how big the tyres , hydro, rear steer , if it scares some one to compete against this type of rig than they obviously dont believe there got the toughest truck / skill combo.

i drive a zook but it pains me to see a tiny zook get good placings due ONLY to his show and shine , engineering points etc, its tuff truck not PRETTY TRUCK,

ok sam keck proved himself in ttc1 but he could have done it in another comp , if its ya first comp and you haven't bothered competeing in any other event why risk voting for YOU , to expensive to compete in other events etc not realy an excuse ,ttc not cheap either , you need to earn your place maybe with 5 wild card hacks or something if need be.

but no Kermit or LJ beep beep

and no winching
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

tuff truck

Post by MADSHORT »

Tuff Truck (ha ha ha) should be called TUFF WALLET or TUFF GOCART
The 4bs for this event were all SUPOSED to be registered and road worthy in their state of registration (ha ha ha)
How tough is the truck if you cant even drive it there
Events like the aproach and departure angle and travel ramp are reflected on the trail so why should you be penalised twice because you run RTA requirements for road worthiness
Show and shine comes back to how big your wallet is not how tough you truck is
Just for an example if anybody has results from last tuff truck check my TUFF TRUCK (73 series bloody huge)take away the BULLSHITE events of my score and of most the trucks in front of me and see the result
And trust me I dont drive a TUFF TRUCK I drive a road registered 4x4

so true concerning RTI and approach and departure angle , why should people get points when its not being Driven , i say good on the fellas with bad RTI and a/d angles that still did well beating the shop trucks on the courses were it counts.

you cannot descriminate against any vehicle and especially when people are saying pick only those with comp experience etc then saying no kermit or Beep Beep Lj. They are bot seasoned event guys.

Once again you have to remember that this board is a very narrow and focussed group of 4whheelers who tend to the hardcore side of 4wheeling. But you won't get all 3000 of us going to the event, you may get a third if very lucky whick means the vast majority aren't into hardcore 4wheeling and their idea of a tuff truck is a 40 series with 35s or a GQ with 35s not a rockbuggy. To many of them they see something like either Sam buggy and think they look ridiculous and aren't really 4wds but just jungle gyms on wheels.

Isn`t tuff truck meant to find the best Driver, Spotter and rig combination?

Now what makes up these things?

the way the rig itself preforms
the way the driver can drive it
the way the spotter can help the driver get the best out of his rig.
and TEAM WORK!!!!!!!!!!! between driver and spotter. Here is where I think winching comes into its own. You can have the best driver, the best spotter and the best rig, but it`ll all mean shit if you can`t do EVERYTHING TOGETHER as a team. this includes using your head. Winching effectivly is very much a team work thing. If you have been in a winch challenge or a event that has winching in it you will know what I mean.

I think winching should be in it but with a bigger penalty, say 50 points instead of 20. But I do LOVE to see a rig drive something rather than winch it.

Not having winching in it would be just as dangerous as having it. Imagine somebody being fully on the gas trying to get up rocky horror and they get a bad bounce or just simply loose it on the last step, they`d be rolling lots of times before they stopped at the bottom, they could take out either them selves, officals or spectators not to meantion completly destroy there rig.

I`m not saying winch has to be in it, I`m more saying that you can not use safety as a reason for not having it.

Nissan trials doesn`t have winching in it and it flows fairly well, I just don`t like there 1 go then you are out rule. Would work better for drivers and spectators if they allowed a second go at it.

For getting into tuff truck, I think that 6 comps should be choosen as a tuff truck qualifying round and the top 5 get the chance to compete in tuff truck if they so wish. Nissan trials shouldn`t be one of these because it has 4 different classes plus overall which is normally won by somebody in modified class. Which top 5 would you choose as the tuff truck entrants, you can`t just say outlaw as there are a lot of rigs that compete in open and modified that can beat rigs in outlaw. Or if nissan trials is one of these you take the bare scores from outlaw, open and modified and use the top 5 highest scorers.

I said this after the 1st tuff truck and I`ll say it again now. I personaly think that the top 3 or 5 from the last tuff truck shouldn`t be allowed to enter the next one. Why do I think this? Because I don`t even want the chance of the same people winning or placing in it year in year out.

Then there is the unknown rig/person.
Sam k was a unknown before the 1st tuff truck and did very well.
I to was an unknown, the 1st tuff truck was my FIRST EVER comp. I was on 33`s had medium to low flex and still came 4th. Sorry sam but I beat you :finger:

Now as for show n shine, ramp, a + d events. THEY SUX!!!!!!!!!!! who farken cares about this shit?
The engineering event I think is good and should stay because wheather you like it or not how good a rig is built goes a long way towards a tuff truck.

Another thing is the rule with NO OUTSIDE help allowed, this is a good rule if it is applied to EVERY!!!!!!!!! compeditor. Last year I wasn`t even allowed to camp outside the compeditors area with my mates because they (tuff truck organisers) wanted to be able to make shore nobody else was working on my rig (fair enough I understand that), but somebody (don`t need to say who) was allowed to take his rig home to fix it.
THIS IS THE BIGGEST THING THAT HAS TURNED ME OFF TUFF TRUCK. ITS A FARKEN JOKE HOW THERE IS 1 SET OF RULES FOR MOST AND THEN ANOTHER SET FOR A SELECT FEW. (yes that is meant to be in caps) If you have ever spoken to me about how I feal on this matter then you will know how pissed I STILL am with this farken shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With so much bleating about entries who is in who is out maybe just have the new committee get up off there arses and pick em from those who propose to enter. END OF CHAT don't like it fug off. They can put out a media release in 4WD monthly stating what they want in candidates. Candidates comply committee chooses, releases the final line up with reserves and then we can all come back on here and bleat about how the committee was a bunch of nanny's on letting all those who came near last in the comp.

I know the original idea was Top Truck Style who cares in the end as the numbers the event needs are filled.

3 events would be better because the number of events drive people to build. I wouldn't build one if there was only one event unless I had a buisness to write it off on and the fact it would sell bits for me.

Say no to winching in public arena's full stop. Safety is the numero uno consideration in writing a risk assessment both in terms of people and the longevity of the comp business wise. With the right design approach having no flailing winch cable wont mean a rats arse to average joe although ATECO might not want Sticker rights. I think this is where ASCC has got it right.

the reason i singled them out was not because off experience but because kermit for one gets decent placings due to points scored in the non driving events , i am not saying i can drive better , i just think when your there watching the tuff truck at the event you see good drives etc and when you see the placings your left scratching your head , its just my opinion thats all , i believe points based soley on the drive/obstacle conquered would show more.

as for lj beep beep, tuff truck :D c'mon i went to see australias TUFF trucks (no offense to team lj )

either way i still enjoy it nomatter what , it'll never be perfect always something someone don't like.

No offence stressed,
BUT I HAVE'NT SEEN YOU COMPETE IN ANY EVENTS.
As for the points score,i quite like the way the scoring is judged on the driving skills and also the vehicle.
Anyone can take there rig to an event and drive into the ground and not give a stuff what the body or engineering side of it looks like.
A real TUFF TRUCK should:

* BE WELL ENGINEERED
*LOOK NEAT AND TIDY.
*BE SET UP FOR ALL ASPECTS OF THE SPORT e.g approach and departure angles, travel ramp and be able to be driven through any terrain.

But hey thats just my opinion.

Easy fella relax.

I remember at the All Terain Challenge at the last TTC when Ipulled up to the start line people in the crowd were telling me to go home and that the car wasn't capable of driving the course and I should pull out so we don't laugh at you. Then the same DICKHEADS clapped and cheared when we drove the the course. So Jamie you will learn to just ignore the expert in the crowd that drives a stock Hilux sitting in the carpark.

Jamie i went to tuff truck as a spectator not a competitor , i dont compete but i dont need to be a movie director to judge what i think is worth watching or not. i'm not bagging kermitt and lj as competitors as such but the event is named TUFF TRUCK , named after what one would think is a bunch of tough trucks .

as i said before iam not saying i can drive better than Alan as i know i carn't , i was simply saying i thought the whole event was to find Australias toughest truck (obviously thats driver nav + veichle combo)

dont take things so dam personal, im not trying to piss people off im just saying what i thought the event was meant to be about .

I DON'T MEAN TO TAKE IT PERSONALLY BUT IT SEEMS THAT YOU HAVE THIS IMAGE IN YOUR HEAD THAT A TUFF TRUCK HAS TO BE A RIG WITH MONSTER SUSPENSION AND HUGE TYRES.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOMEONE WIN TUFF TRUCK THIS YEAR,JUST SEE EVERYONES FACE WHEN THEY ANNOUNCE IT WAS'NT A HUGELY MODIFIED MONSTER TRUCK.
no offence intended to the guys with hugely modified rigs.

Exactly. A fairly basic Jeep came 3rd in the first one, yes I know he got show 7 shine points blah blah blah but he also did a nice consistent job in the events and fginished without breaking stuff. A Tuff truck is one that can compete in all the events without busting stuff and do so with good results. You don't have to win single events to win the whole shebang. As long as you are consistent you stand a good chance to do well

I agree 100% with this, I`ve done this in both tuff trucks (not as good in second one, but still ok for the type of rigs that were there and a compressor dieing on a stage, leaving me with no diff locks).

But you only here about the bloke who rolled his rig or smashed it up big time  not the one that didn`t break anything and either did or could have driven it home. My lux went back to sydney after tuff truck, had stickers removed, got washed and had NO repairs of any sort then went to woodpecker got 3rd then changed tyres and drove 700kms home.

Call me bias but that is what makes a tuff truck not one that can bounce its way up rocks, if it is DRIVEN up and doesn`t winch then that is pure tuffness.

Now on the winching note is Glens 45 any less tuff because he had to winch once or twice last year? did that make him any less exciting to watch because he had to winch? No it didn`t. Personaly I don`t see the big thing on winching as long as they have a decent go first rather than just drive up to the obstical stop and run the cable. If I`m socail driving I`ll have about 20 goes before I`ll call for cable. Like on the toolangi night drive on vic range, there is a huge step in red clay mud that is also the start of a 90 deg turn, there was NO way in hell I could even get the 1st wheel to even start climbing the bank, I know I tried about 6 times, but once the first wheel was winched up I had about 4 goes at getting the other 3 up without winching them and did so :D covered myself in mud diding it but

As I said in my last reply I`m not saying that winching should be in it nor am I saying it shouldn`t be, but you can`t use safety as the reason for not having it as it can in some cases be just as unsafe without it. Nissan Trials has more roll overs then most other comps because they don`t have winching in it and everybody drives that bit harder because they can`t winch. My roll over at nissan trials had nothing to do with this as I was 100% stopped and had been for a minute or 2 before the lux wanted to play dead
