has anyone considered the ausshock coilovers??
14"travel 7/8 shaft
remote reservior
$765 each
used by some of australias best offroad racers!!
seems like a good product at a good price
would have to be much stronger than rancho conversions because they are built to pound tracks at 150 kph plus.

I could be totaly wrong but they deffianatly look better and stronger than the Rancho coilovers that Surfection had in the front of his Surf.

Glen has been doing these coilovers for some time, i held one that rhino had at snake racing about 2 years ago. They are 500% better than the ones in my old truck, with all problematic issues having been addressed. The spring is not supported by the shock body in any way, the shock body is also protected from contact with the inside of the coil [which was my main problem]. The run an orbital/johnny joint type arrangement top and bottom to allow for forward and rear movement under suspension travel.

I have not thought about the heat issue before, it's a good point... could cause problems over long distances/medium-high speed rough terrain.
They are also VERY heavy, one thing it seems we're all trying to get away from !! [WTF am i driving a rangie then?!?]

I get where you're coming from wanting to support a local company, and i think it's great but, if it were me i'd be importing some race runners/sway-A-way's or fox air shocks myself, or even talking to liam about what sort of a deal he can do.

Either way dude it's looking awesome so far, hurry up and get it together so we can go wheeling, jenolan's calling ;)

What about clearance with the new cross member? Or are you still going to use the centre bearing 2 piece setup?

Now not bagging at all, looks good to me but why did you go 4 link and not A frame?

Posted: Wed Mar 17, 2004 6:39 pm
by professor
it will be tight but the 100 series cv sharft will clear the xmember
if not a pipe channel will do the trick in the x member

Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like it will hit on compression if/when jumped. Even if you don`t plan on jumping it you still need to have it so it clears if you do happen to do it by accedent, I know I have made that mistake before

no mistake the sharft will go above the xmember and will only go close when at full travel out
i try to overcome all problems before i creat them

Cool hard to tell from pics.

Like I said looks good

I edited a reply on page 2 (you might have missed it) whay did you go 4 link and not just A frame? Wanting to know you`re reason here as I am putting coils etc under my lux once I have the V8 in and finished.

a 4 link can be adjusted in all directions, diffin centre, correct wheel base both wheels, pinion angle. the main one is that you can adjust the diff to centre.oh and more mounts on diff 4 instead of 3 share the load ;)

hey there people!
I'm at the next stage of the build up and i need some ideas on making a x member at the rear for my coil overs to mount to.
The chassis has been cut off 130mm infront of the centre of the diff so that i can run the coil overs as far out towards the wheel as possable and have them angled in so as not to hit them on full wheel movement .

i thinking of cutting a profile out of 8 mm plate that will go chassis to chassis

how have you guys done this out there?

got the x member cut out today thanks to heavy industry. gota love industrial towns you can get just about any thing done here.

Also managed to mount the x member aswell.

COMENTS PLEASE!!!!!!

looks pretty cool

i'm assuming you made the upper coil over bracket double shear and that you plan to gusset your cross-member plate for fore and aft deflection :P

the x member will be braced with tube and flat steel together and the main roll cage will help that aswell
What do you mean by bouble shear?

the upper coil mount will have 3 bolts inline holding it to the x member. it has a fair bit of leverage on the x member though it has me worried!!!
But i intend to make it as strong as i can.

nice.

is there enough room between the plate for the coilovers to move forward? like when down travel occurs. will they foul on the plate?
