The problem with most alloys is they're made to look good- not designed for light weight. There can also be a huge difference in tyre weights between different brands that are the same size.
I wish I still had the actual weights - I only remember it was a bit under 30% lighter. I still have the Sunraysias so I will dig them out & weigh them......
Agreed - most alloys are made to only look good. Pays to do your research. Can only say the CSA Magnums are really tough - thought long & hard on my rim choices in going to the 31's & these came out on top in the Cost vs Weight vs Strength vs Looks equation - but like I said, Rims are a personal thing & YMMV.
I know the arguement for steel offroad is that if they get bent you can hammer them back into some sort of shape - agreed. But I also found that Steel will bend before Alloy will Crack - & it takes a hell of a big hit to crack a well made alloy rim.
If I was building a pure built rockcrawler though, then I would probably put Steel Rims on it though.....with Beadlocks
Still haven't 100% decided on Rims for the Surf either - the Magnums were so good on the Feroza I am really tempted to just get them again ( plus the Surf CV's & Front Diff have the same problems as the Feroza with big tyres & wheels ) but then I really like the Black Steel Pro-Comp Rockcrawler Rims as well........too much choice
