Apart from the fact that K&N filters let a lot more dust in than paper filters, It is pretty well accepted that they foul MAFs on Rover V8s for the reason I gave.
K&N claim it doesn't happen if you oil it by the book Blah blah but sooner or later it will.
There was a scientific test done in the USA on all types of filters, which was referred to recently in an AULRO thread. Have a look.

haha i dont oil mine anyway and when i do it's a thin mist of the sticky shit that is almost like contact adhesive, (the k&n stuff) i wouldnt call it an oil, so i cant see it getting through (imo) i work on alot of cars with afm's and k&n that have had for a long time and have never seen bad sideaffects
