it costs a lot of money to exhibit

melbourne is still recognised as the big show

99% of the market is mum and dad and their camper

so there is little incentive to spend big $$$$ to advertise hardcore product

sometimes though, you only have to tickle the imagination of mum/dad, or the general 4x4er. i wasn't hugely into custom 4x4 till i saw cheesy's rig and a marks adaptors 80 series ute, with V8 diesel... after that the plans went from off the shelf 2 inch lift to.... god only knows.

same with my little bro, now he wants to bobtail the 45 troopy...

I think you'll find for the first couple of years the smaller operators were saying that they couldn't really afford to be there, but at the same time, they couldn't afford to not be there either.

I reckon that what's happened over the last couple of years is that a lot of these guys spoke amongst each other and decided that if none of them turned up that none of them copped the expense or lost out because all of the others were there.

As someone mentioned, the cost of attending these shows is astronomical especially when you consider that a lot of the smaller operators have to close their doors to be able to staff a stand and most of the places you want to see have no immediate way of mmeasuring the success of being there.

My company had a shitty little cubicle there in one of the desitnation areas (I work in the ski fields) - compared with the money that the ARBs and the like pump into their displays, ours was so boring that I didn't even bother stopping in to have a sticky beak.

If it comes down to laying down a couple of thousand dollars for a presence at the show or a smaller company investing similar dollars into a quality web site, I know where I'd be sticking my money.

For those of you from Sydney who went and were disappointed, console yourselves in the fact that I had to drive almost 6 hours each way to see what disappointed both you and I . . . .
I'm not very good looking, so I guess I better be useful . . .

IMHO the show was a crook of shyte.....
Last year I paid my $15 looking for a good price on a good set of spotties - got 'em an basically within 24hours had found cheaper online....I swore I wouldn't go this year.....
Anyways this year I had a free pass tossed my way....This time looking for a set of spotties for the wifes Volvo.....Got a set (diff brand) got online & immediately found the same ones cheaper....
Next year I will ONLY attend if I get another freebie and I'll be leaving my wallet at home :bad-words:
My 2¢
1. The entry price is too much,
2. The stand costs are obviously too much becuase hardly any of the smaller shops have a stand & IMHO they are they ones doing the cool stufff I've seen that bloody ARB difflock device way too many times to be intrigued by it
3. Obviously trying to recoop some of their costs of having stands - the show prices are a rip off.....
Summary crock of shyt.....
