well, have ordered a reco complete half shaft. cost $136 from thompsons here in brissy, not a bad price i reckon. farkin ripoff wreckers wanted 110-120 bucks for one out of a wreck, farkin ripjob
i pulled the half shaft out just a minute ago, and i cant figure out why its let go. the cv is sitting in degreaser at the moment so i can try to work out what happened, but from looking at it so far, nothing is cracked, smashed, chipped or anything, except for this metal ring 'thingy' (very technical term that

) which is bent up and split. i'll get pics when the parts are clean.
what i also want to know is, will it be alright to leave the shaft out for tonight and tomorrow and just cover up the hole with a rag and some tape or whatever, until i pick up the new shaft tomorrow, cause the circlip to get the axle out is a pr*ck to get off

the second one is of the metal ring that snapped in half, i assume this is what caused the cv to shit itself, but where does it usually sit?

Sometimes things break when you least expect it. Who knows, it may have been on its' way out for a while, and that was the last step for it.
My vitara was with me for 2 years, and it was pushed very very hard, but never broke a cv.
I've actually seen first hand more patrols busting cv's than anything else. aka woodpecker....

you would have also seen those 'rock' things that i was talking about, pretty rare in vic
mtzook, thats what i think, they looked to be the original cv's, and the car is 10+ years old now, so i reckon its just the age of em
