ive decided just to keep the 30"s. and invest the money into a front air locker or something fun like that...
thanks for all the input. i just cant fork out money to do the work and possibly get defected. that would make me cry.
so 30" are here to stay....

Have you lived in QLD? I don't know about Brisvegas but up here I get left well alone with 31" pedes on my zook and have many mates with 35" tyred rigs who also get left alone. They are busy chasing the P plate ricers to bother with us.

i have close to 4" of lift on my coily running 235/75r15s (28"), 1" offset rims and and a noisy exhaust. i dont get a second look and i drive through heaps of road works and police traffic controlled areas daily (moggill rd upgrade, ipswich mwy. icb).
i got a mate with a skyline that gets pulled over weekly and he lives just down the road from me.

that seems to be your head stuck in the sand answer everytime sokeone mentions the fact that larger tyres are illegal. Doesn't matter if you haven't been pulled over for it. They are illegal and 33s are going to stand out even more on a Sierra. If you are in an accident with them then you are in trouble.
Recommending illegal mods without a caveat that they are illegal is dumb, misleading and potential a costly mistake for a newbie.
Just because we don't live in QLD doesn't mean we are unaware of the rules. In my case I researched it quite extensively when I owned my Sierra as I was contemplating a move to QLD at the time.

Insurance Contracts Act 1984 over-rides any and all product disclosure statements and policies.
Insurance Contracts Act 1984 wrote:Section 54 Insurer may not refuse to pay claims in certain circumstances

If you were running 35" tyres on your Sierra and rolled it on a side camber, had your claim denied and took it to the Ombudsman, past case histories show the Ombudsman requiring the Insurer to prove the modifications caused the event, rather than requiring the insured to prove that they didn't cause the event as per the wording of the Act.
The result of this is that the Insurer would likely have to present extensive engineering data showing that the increased COG was the
only cause of the rollover, and that a rollover would not have occurred if the car were on stock tyres / suspension. This costs $$$. Much more than paying out the insurance on a Sierra.
Insurers
cannot simply write themselves out of indemnity using clauses such as "(The insurer) will not pay if your vehicle was being used unlawfully by you or a person who with your consent was in possession of your vehicle. This includes being unregistered or in an unroadworthy condition, towing a vehicle illegally, being driven by someone without a licence, or any other unlawful situation" (taken from my policy wording). They must show that the unroadworthiness of the vehicle cauesd the accident.

never said anything about insurance, if you are driving an illegally modified vehicle or unroadworthy one you can face significant fines where you may not if the vehicle is a legal one in the event of an accident.
But as you mentioned insurance don't you have make full disclosure of what mods you have done to your vehicle to make sure your insurance will cover you. If you have performed mods that haven't been declared and they aren't legal surely they wouldn't then be covered?

Ah no worries - my mistake. Had been renewing my policies so had insurance on the mind

Believe it or not, non-disclosure does not void your insurance. You likely won't be covered for the cost of restoring non-disclosed modifications or accessories to the vehicle BUT the vehicle itself will still be covered if you have an accident so long as the insurer cannot prove to the Ombudsman via expert reports that the undisclosed, illegal mods CAUSED the accident.
Recent example is cover denied to an unlicensed 40 something driver. Ombudsman deemed that as she'd previously held a driver's license, she'd undergone all the training required of a licensed driver - just hadn't paid her license fee - and therefore required the insurer to indemnify her claim.
However were it a 40 something unlicensed driver who'd never held a license, the Ombudsman would likely support the insurer in the denial because the accident could be attributed to the unlicensed driver never having undergone required training and assessment.
As for significant fines - I'm unaware of any penalty that can be imposed over and above a defect notice, except perhaps a Dangerous Driving charge which can take into account the condition of the vehicle. Dangerous driving charges on this basis would be highly subjective though and open to argument in court...

Where did I ever say go out and do it or reccomend it? It's been mentioned that it is illegal so that needs not be said again I was stating (from experience) that it would not be cop bait (in my part of QLD) and hence knowing that it is still illegal the owner could make his own decisions. The 235/75's I bought my zook on were even illegal so really you have to make the decision early if you want it legal or not in QLD.
And normally I bite my tongue but seriously Grumpo you condescending attitude toward everyone is getting a bit old. Just because we look at something in a different light to you doesn't mean we need a lecture nor are stupid and ignorant. Your zook was by far more modified beyond anything that would be remotely legal in QLD yet you still feel the need to have your two cents. "please know your car will not be legal on XX" tyres with X" lift" is all that's needed not the follow up holier than thou act.

30's to me look to scale on a sierra this is why i think it does not cause any attention, 33's are just crazy.
ive had a police officer warn me about my tires and they don't even stick out and they are only 30's sooo 33's would be crazy here on the coast...

yeah spamwell, same thing happened to me.
i had 31" claws under a 2" bodylift and the cops got up me about them.
so i got rid of them, and now im back to those shit stock tyres....for now anyway ha

most of the 4wds that are big or modded are illegal and unroadworthy and if the cops wanna dick ya for it they will no matter what

big offset & narrow tracked front… or both.
cut guards/guard lift.
And I definetly wouldn’t go locking the front unless it’s an air-locker… and when you do you'd want to upgrade the cv's/axles.
In other words do the other shit thats gonna improve your car first (gearing/lockers etc), then go bigger if you want to do the work to fit em...

Great advice
Stick to smaller tyres around town and when you go wheeling swap them over, keeps you legal and doesn't wear out your good tyres.
