On some of my IFS CV's when I had the Surf, the genuine CV's came with a bolt in the end of the CV with a large washer instead of the circlip that stopped the CV from sliding in. CV still had the groove but just wasnt used.
I wonder if you trimmed the CV in the 80 to length and used the IFS bolt / washer instead of cutting in a new circlip groove. Only thing is does anyone have a long 80 CV out and can measure the depth of the thread in the CV?
The bolt in the end still fitted with the Aisin freewheel hubs on the IFS. Just a thought...

GO the 80...The mods have started :-)
the thread is still long enough
the trouble is clearance under the freewheel hub to fit a bolt head and a washer (warn style)
I toyed with that idea but it is not hard to put a groove back in the cv
this is how i did it up the cape after finding the cv that we had just driven 500km for was 8 mm too long
put the truck in neutral transfer wise
got a mate to slowly and steadily turn the wheel on the opposite side with the front diff lock turned on
using the angle grinder with a cutting wheel run off my invertercarfully cut a groove
then to get a perfect groove cut used a brand new cutting wheel to bottom the grove to give it nice square corners
that was 3 years ago cv still fitted to my mates truck it looked like a bought one still giggle when i think about how well it turned out.
there were some pretty amazed faces on the truck loads of families that drove past as this was being carried out

so recapping you have fitted
longfeild cv's
longfeild hub gears
aisin free wheel hubs
did you end up doing the hardened Allen bolts?
did you use longfeild axles?
now the fun bit trying to break them!!!!
let us know if you break any thing will be interesting to see what the new weak link is
my guess is the aisins or the studs unless you have a std front diff
cheers

Re: 80 series, aisin hubs, longfields, part time kit etc
grave dig
just trying to fit aisin hubs to my 80 series full time diff.
the aisin hubs ive got must be the shorter ones as i have the 8mm gap between circlip and the inner hub gear.
What i want to do!!! (and what i dont understand you guys didnt do!!!)
Make an 8mm spacer to go behind the circlip, which will then stop the axle sliding into the diff too far..
From my measurements the axle wont ever hit the free-wheel hub selecting part, if thats what everyone is concerend about?
what am i thinking wrong??? D: D:

Re: 80 series, aisin hubs, longfields, part time kit etc
There is only one style aisin FWH, you need to either get part time 80 cv's or regroove and shorten the full time c/v's.
Putting a spacer between the hub gear and circlip does not work.

bugger
I'm not too keen on pulling the cv back out or regrooving the cv myself,
so drive flanges will be run for a while lol

Re: 80 series, aisin hubs, longfields, part time kit etc
I've done this, I got spacers from marks adaptors, that doesn't work with original free wheeling hubs, I had a new circlip groove in 8mm toward the cv, didn't shorten the axle, no need, has been running fine for the last couple of years in a daily:)
