with a large amount of oil the engine will run uncontrolled. ie will run on engine oil. doesn't take a lot to do it. simply overfilling the engine with oil can do it.
but normally the oil acts as fuel. one problem is it burns on the compression stroke, you can get more power but also high egt's.
the big problem is its inconsistent. not to bad with older mechanical injection motors but modern ECU's can have trouble and throw a few quirks.
however a lot of the oil simply joins with dust that gets through the air filter and soot from the EGR to form black sludge in the intake.
one good thing in one of the up coming emission standards is the crankcase gases will also be metered and counted as EGR. if you get a lot of blowby the EGR will be reduced to take into account of the extra gases.

so is there any reason why you could not remove it from your intake and put a tee in your oil return from turbo and dump it in da sump

no reason at all, a lot do that. just have to make sure the T join doesn't become a restriction for the oil coming from the turbo.

Hi guys. It not a gut-lux, but check out weemans catch can on his GU TD42T:
I am going to fit a catch can to my GQ as i dont want the blow-by going into my turbo like it currently is (my compressor housing is weeping the oil). The volume of ventilation on my TD42 at idle is quite high - probably similar to what you would move repeatedly pushing a push-bike hand pump.
BUT, a word of warning - READ THIS FIRST before you go and buy some cheap of-the-shelf or eBay unit:

I'm going to get a cheap unit like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TURBO-V8-HOLDEN- ... 7C294%3A50
and then replace the pipe fittings with the biggest ID i can fit the factory 13mm ID PCV hose onto. I'll be using some coarse brass wool to do the separation.
EDIT: Make sure you use proper oil hose, not just heater hose like some people do. Heater hose will go all soft and squishy after a while due to the oil swelling the rubber.
