I run my lockrite in the rear and airlocker front and the lockrite is fine. if you hit the gas going around a greasy roundabout then it'll usually understeer and try and push you straight which is no problem if you are ready for it and drive accordingly.

i would strongly advise spending the $150 bucks or so to get someone to install it who knows what they are doing. Mine hardly ever makes noise when engaging or disengaging. I love it!
Exactly right, if youre Lockrite doesnt work properly, it isnt fitted properly. I fitted mine myself and its smooth as glass. I got a heap of weight in the back too.
+1 on the proper fitting. I have driven some that are down right terrible. Mine is quite smooth compared to them. Though it id due to come out and check everything (been in there for years).

I had my lockright set up professionally by a well known diff place in Bayswater. They charged me a heap to set it up too. As I mentioned before, it is very tight - it takes a lot to make it unlock. It can be a PITA.

Can someone recommend someone in Melbourne (SE suburbs preferably) that knows EXACTLY how to set one up? I'm all ears!

Total Traction - Cochranes Rd Moorabin.

I haven't personally had them setup a lockright, but have had airlockers and spools installed by them... highly recommended.

Just on the old lockrites, mine can be a bitch. when letting the clutch out if too quick it can slap hard, every now and then it lets out a loud click like its not quite in and then bang its in.
My main concern was with the backlash with these when i put the centres back in after i had a diff specialist install them.
But after speaking with him about it, he said the backlash is there to help put it into the locked position.
I'm used to them, been in for a while now. scares the crap out of some people and i always hear "ya cv's are shot mate".

But at the end of the day, shouldve paid for air lockers

There are measurements that should be made regarding the side gear size and shims that need to be inserted etc. If you check the install manual they list the correct measurements. Clearences outside the tollerances will give rough/incorrect opperation.

Thanks Greg. Ill give them a call and get an idea of the cost involved for them to set mine up.

Cheers.

from memory the ring and pinion backlash is .1 to .15 not the .5 backlash of most diffs. MUD-PIGS diff had over 1mm of backlash when we striped it.
if you dont know how to set up r&p correctly with factory specks
you are best off getting someone to do it for you. the diff will work, just not
for as long as it should.

An as I have told you Shep, my trust in most Darwin businesses continually gets burned and its why it makes buying new things and thinking about who to get it done by very hard. :x

Well a good friend of mine installed my dtroit easy locker and i helped him. he's actually a small engines mechanic who learned how to build diffs in ATV motorbikes ( Reckons he's seen bigger ATV centres than a zook centre). He's done quite a few diff now air lockers and all he knows he's Diffs. When installin my easy locker he had never done one and took the intructions to work and read them for a day ( they were that hard to understand) Had no Clearances or anythin. after one axle brocken we then built another centre with the same locker. This time we tightened the backlash rite up.

Still got that bang when you let the clutch out. I'm thinking this is just a combination of a cheap clutch and the nature of the easy locker. Will soon find out if we can minimize this bang when we do yet another build to put my spool in the rear and my easy locker in the front. Any tips

to minimise the 'bang' the shimming has to be done spot on....and its not easy, particularly in a four pinion carrier.

Ok thanks. one more question what are the shimming measurements.

To give you an idea of how vague the installation instructions are this is a paragraph out of it.

With finger through the top axle shaft hole, rotate the top side gear, turn the assembly over and rotate the other side gear. If they do not rotate easily and without binding, switch thrust washers, if parts still do not rotate easily then obtailn thinner thrust washers or carefully grind the thrust washers a few thousandths of an inch

that is the closest thing to a measurment in the easy locker installation instructions
