That is a very good point. It's not like bad taste bling is a new thing :)
what about 16" black sunnies??? I never knew that buying a cheap rim in black was bling or gonna make me more wankerish...

Then again i don't mind being a wanker, maybe I should have kept the 17" black steelies...

I always new i was a wanker just never knew that black steel wheels that were cheap and easy to replace was increasing my bling and wanker stakes!

Learn something new everyday... :D
Black's not bling.

For that you need white steelies with the red and green pin stripes :D

I'm surprised by the bad taste black thing.

I agree that some sort of factory silver might be more tasteful, but I've never understood white wheels.

Neither did Sunraysier when they dreamt them up - they were gong to go with standard 40 series split rim grey, then decided that white was the rudest colour they could think of - and seriously - how rude do white 8 spokes look on any car?

I've never liked too many colours on my cars, and in 90% of cases, a silver or white rim adds another colour that a 4WD that's already got yellow shocks, a black bar, and whatever = too many colours, so black always seems to clean the car up cosmetically- if nothing else, it tends to blend with the axles/chassis making the car less shouty.

My 2C.

What do I know though.... I don't reckon anything looks good unless it's olive drab...

Mine are solaris orange and not normal sunnies. mine are the round hole modular ones.

What about on a dirty 4WD? Everyone has their opinion. Personally I think Commodore screams wanker in most cases :finger:

FYI I have MT Classic Locks, which look awesome, even if they are scuffed up a bit. Since when does caring about what your car/4WD looks like = wanker? Are we all meant to have beat up ugly POS's?

booflux wrote:My wifes Prado and my mates Lux both run 32s on 17" rims, it works fine on the beach and for light to medium offroad. Like you I used to run 35s on 17s an my Lux and loved the combo never had a drama of not enough sidewall bagging etc.

I say go for it imo 15" black sunnies scream wanker but then everyones opinion is different :cool: :cool:
i think thats a bit harsh boof, i've run 'black' steelies for over 8 years now, 3-4yrs on my current rig as i think white/alloy, etc would be the 'wank factor' option, but then everyones opinion is different :D

ahhhh shittt, you've got it all going on, lots of lights, black rims haha.

I dont think lights is a wank bling factor, although my opinion of that is withdrawn if its a 2001 hilux with 10 inchs of lift with 8 rallye 4000's and an arse about shackle angle.

Unlike boof I was only joking and having a dig at him personally cause he's the biggest poser on here, So no there is nothing wrong with caring for you car or fake locks.

GRPABT1 wrote:I think it would depend alot apon tyre design and construction too, a radial 35X12.5X15" a/t is going to handle alot differently to a simex ET 35X12.5X15". Getting the right combo is what is important. Take formula one for example, the very top level of tyre design, so much so that the tyre itself acts as most of the suspension in the vehicle and opposite to norm in a fast car they run a high profile as the tyre design affords them that ability.
Formula1 have such a high profile as the rules state that they use 13" wheels.

Yes, I always used to think that it was rule induced "limiter" too, but do a bit more digging - there a sound engineering reasons why they run 13" rims.

It's worth remembering that the rules in F1 aren't arbitary, they're calculated by engineers.

The sidewalls are calculated suspension components, the rim/tyre ratio gives the lightest possible unsprung mass - there's lots of factors.

Uh oh, the twin snorkels and excess spotties are another bad sign. Plus it's a Land Rover.

so biggest rim for a 30=15
32=16
35=17
40=20

I reckon there's something in that.
That's good info. Seems to make pretty good sense to me.

The ABT buggy ? It runs 20's but with 40" tyres. There's that 50/50 rule again.
