GQ PATROL engine ideas???
I have the RB30t in a shortyy Mav, running 12ish pound.
Go the Turbo, too much fun, and yep i've had V8's in 4WD's before, but i wont be going back to them .
As a rough idea on prices,
RB30 $500 including computer
Turbo any where from $400 to $2000
Sutible manifolds $250 second hand or the sky's the limit
Nistune $400+tuning
Front mount $500
With those prices you would be getting 150rwkw+
Just think outside the box, look around on some Turbo Car forums, and you will be amazid at some of the prices kicking around for this sort of stuff.
If you go to a tuner that does alot of race cars, and they know you're motor type, that saves you a lot of money as they don't have to learn to tune on you're money.

Good decision mate you wont regret it at all.
Had a tb4.8 behind me on the way home from work today right up my clacker, so I give it a BIT and so did he and he was still right up my clacker, did that again and he was still wanting to have a go, so I floored it in 3rd after a round about and absolutely left him for dead hahahhahahah,
took him a bit to catch back up. I dont think he was real happy.
Turbo is SOOOO good. I still cant stop smiling about it.

I have a TB42E turbo'd best thing I could of done , runs like a factory set up with more than double the original power . Cost was higher then expected but was done with quality bits ( I try not to do things twice). Puts a smile on every ones face every time , unless your the one who just had their ass spanked by it.
Nup not telling
you'll have to find out yourself

My RB30et drink's like a alcho on doll day .
I was told by the bloke i bought it off, from a 160l of Premium, 600-700k's.
Mind you i will be lucky to get that at the minute , but it is going back on the Dyno in the next week or two, so i will let you know after that, but i'm not expecting much better, UNLESS i drive it like my Grandma

mine got me about 3mk/l on gas and that was only a very mild tune, my new ls1 gets me 5.8km/l in a mix of highway and very heavy traffic and a lot more powerB.D.R wrote:My RB30et drink's like a alcho on doll day .

I believe a nice choice is a big inch small block chevy, a customer around here gets a custom build 427 (7.0 liter) small block chevrolet and it moves pretty well

Thanks Andrew.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
I looked at a few V8 powered swb GQ's before i bought my current TB powered SWB.
Do i love it, ummm yes, it puts a smile on my dial every time i drive it, and its what i wanted. It does everything i ask of it, and runs like a dream.
The power is fantastically progressive, and i can potter along all day, off boost, and when i need to set the pony's loose, i can.....
$10,000 should get you somewhere, even if you do most of the work yourself. Picking up a good computer, and then getting a good tune, is the expensive part.
I'd give JPC a call, and speak to them about turbocharging the tb42.
