First thing to do is ensure that that the centres are the same between both cases. If the distance between the input and intermediate or inter and output shafts is different (even my a tiny tiny bit) it's just not gonna work.

the total tooth count is different to achieve the same (apparently) ratios as a 1.0 with light, so that makes me wonder that the spacing is different.

Ihave 2 rocklobster transfer cases and both seem to hold up and work really well
One has 3.9 gears and 28"
The other has 4.88 and 35"

I think you should continue with the project, just sourse a different case for the other cut.
It will not work with that one your trying to use

Boner59 - pm sent

11_evl - are you using the 1L or the 1.3L case? Did you machine and weld it yourself or pay for someone to do it?

not sure what case i will use as this is a spare for me.

i supplied the gears and it cost me $250 to be welded up.

i have 2 others just like this and they are going great

Oh okay what sort shop did you take it to? engineering or machining?

Anyone else got some 1L gears they would sell me?

you can't build a 4,16 "rocklobster" using that set of pre-1984 sj 410 gears to mate with samurai1300 gears.

save your time and get a 4,16 kit from usa, they are pretty cheap now.

yeah i know mate, i have officially given up on the project. and yeah i did look at prices and the 4.16 is only 399 US at the moment, but what looked even better was the 6.5's for 475US or $599 AUS at the moment, through lowrange offroad. Anyone know what sort of postage costs are involved?

Should go in a USD$55 USPS global express box.

thanks for that steve, so that makes it $670.50. food for thought, there is now an 8.1 set for sale at lowrange as well . too low for me but others may like it

grab the bearing kit as well.

the 6.5's comes with the bearings

I don't think the 8:1's make any real sense.

TG 6.5's come with everything you need to fit them, as long as your case was in good nick when you started.

Interestingly, Trail Tough install kits come with all suzuki genuine parts (seals, bearings, gaskets and intermediate shaft) TG gears come with 3rd party install parts.

Just an observation.

I've been ecstatic with with TT 6.5:1's. not the cheapest option, but they're very quiet. (no noisier than stock gears)

would love to know how that is on for, i saw that the other day. at only $20US more than the TG stuff I suppose it is worth it but i wont have the cash for a couple of week :(

they alter high range a lot less though. only 17% as opposed to 20%

Just contact TT and ask.

There's another catch with TT - I think they only ship UPS (not USPS) so freight is dearer, but quicker and better insured.

yes but not all the bearings that are in the trans box. if you have it in bits
it would make sence to replace the rest of the bearings.

yeah shep that does make sense. How do you get the speedo gear out? does the whole barrel come out or is it just the gear?
