i dont want to hear why dont you just get a hilux because i have thaught about it and i would have the strength of the lux with the lighter weight of the zook i just want to know if anyone has done it and what problems i would face
just to give some more details the motor is a standard 18r with 4speed g/box and i am thinking of putting lux springs in it as well and running 33" tyres
Do you have any specific questions ?
Very hard give answers to vauge questions, People have tried to give you advice to be told they are wrong.
Have you spoke to QLD DOT ?
The rest is pointless until you get the yay or nay from them.

go for it

Post by builtlux88 »

hey mate it can be done ive seen it done at a complete running stage so go for it im not to sure wats involved in it but just be aware it will be a little time consuming and prob a bit of ginding time

my mate has a lwb zook he brought it when it was pretty stock he then put the 1.8 grinner motor into it, then down the track went hilux springs and diffs and now sits on 36 swampers obviously im assuming ur not wanting to drive it on the road as it wont be worth the money to do even if u could get engineered

my amte did his over a period of bout 2 yrs and was in the shed for most of that time but rarely worked on it if u need any info in regards to this hit me up and ill ask him if he can help out

just go for it

look at the maxxis zook on the bundera chassis with the chevy in it for inspiration :D

I dont want to sounds negative but do you have the required expertise to complete this project. Wasn't there an idea you had years ago to put a 4age in your green ute, but it just never happened. This project is a lot more work then just an engine conversion. I honestly think its a terrible idea, but I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon. I run 33's have tonnes of clearance, a powerful motor, heaps of flex and its reliable, for a lot less money and effort then your planned project. Why do you want to run a hilux engine/diffs/gearbox and tcase. Is it for reliability, strength, stability?
Best of luck if you do go for it.

If your planning a swap like this it's a heluva lot of time, expense and effort.
The fact it is sitting there to me does not justify the effort or expense of swapping in a dinosaur motor like an all iron 18r to a sierra. The rest is not that bad of an idea ... but a full body off build to put in a motor that has an induction system like that just does not make any sense .. especially if you are asking how to do it.

the toyo motor would go, i have a nice baleno 1.6 in the shed.

auto box.

Im assuming its still 1l diffs? i would W/T diff it.

Redo the tray with some thing snazier. (preference thing)

Re paint. not a fan of green.

some big rubber.

These are just things i would do. There is now doubt you have spent the cash on this but its still only worth what people will give you.

yep but it was a nightmare when it came to rego and selling it as they were never offered in Australia so emissions couldn't be proved without a big headache. It was a good engine though, very well suited to my Sierra and its setup although EFi would have been nice
