Our rules are 1/3 of suspension travel either way.

Larger diameter rims and tyres. Where this option is used, the increase in overall tyre radius is added to the trim height to show the lift relative to the ground. Refer to 'Certification' on page 5 for particular requirements for increasing the overall diameter of a wheel and tyre combination by up to 15mm.

i'm from SA and i've just bought a 96 sierra as my first car. my mate has 31's that will fit the rims i have at the moment but i have to get a body lift first. but thats gonna suck if its not even legal. does anyone know the SA rules? or who i would contact to find out?

I's 100% not legal unless engineered, and it might not even be possible with engineering - 28" is the tallest legal (engineered) tyre on a SWB sierra with stock axles etc in victoria, and we're in line with the NCOP.
