tell me the shackle angle you want when the spring is flat, or the length of the spring at rest with the shackle angle you want at rest, and i'll give you the distance to set the mount at.

try tack welding it on and then cycle the suspension through and see what happens. Easy enough to then adjust with either different length shackles or move the mount

how much deflection from flat? 10mm, 50mm, 100mm??

We have 40mm (me), 50mm (sam) and 60mm (wendle) Do we hear 30mm and/or 70mm?

The reason I said 40mm is because my rear suspension is set up with the shackel at 45 degs when springs are flat and if I was to do it again I`d set them at about 35 to 40 as I think it would help it drive better with the soft springs in it. Just my thoughts and I like doing things the trial and error way as it helps me learn more for next time.

i was sayin 60 to 63mm back so i am close enough to wendle

I`m not saying 60 is write or wrong, but from what I have done so far I think it would drive shit at 110km/hr and I think Ben would still want it to drive good. Like I have said my shackels sit at 45 and the rear of my lux is ok up to 100km/hr on a smooth road, get a ruff road and its back to 90km/hr and I think the shackel angle has some to do with it.

But anyway do we hear 30mm or 70mm

yeh i was just sayin i said what wendle said :D

there is no right or wrong ...... its what eva the person wants

my rear shackle is past 45degrees an it handles fine on bumpy roads at 100km/h :?

Ya well on mine I think its a mix of the shackel angle and the soft springs, I have been meaning to play around with it but since I`m now coiling it all round I haven`t bothered with it.

Guts wrote:Refering to your 2nd pic Ben, I tried this with my current rear springs and it didn`t work, with just me jumping on the tray the shackel would go back and sit against the frame and wouldn`t come back unless I lifted the rear of the lux and took some wieght off the springs. If you were to mount the frame end of the shackel at 1210mm you`d need the shackels at (guessing) 120mm.

I was thinking about this today I think that once the shackle goes past a cewrtain angle (whatever that is) the spring wouldn't be supporting the weight anymore and would unload in a way, i guess the easiest way to explain it is when you move something using a fridge trolley, as you tip it from vertical the horizontal force needed to hold it up changes to vertical force and a leaf spring can't really provide this force so thats what makes the springs appear soft.

cool well i have decided that i want bout 35 - 30 degrees wen the spring is dead flat, so at ride height they will sit bout 45-40.. i think this will work out ok if not ill worry bout it later i just wanna get it drivin again

thanx 4 all the time and effort people have been puttin into thinkin bout it

thought bout it again i gunna run it at 1220 apart on the frame so wendle wot angle will that give me at dead flat ?? im hopeless at maths

At 1220 it will lock, just my opinion.

yep. thats only 10mm back. Go with the 60mm as more than 1 person has said that.

may vary a tiny bit depending on how horizontal the chord you are measuring your 1220 is.

mines bout that in the front maybe a touch more angle, and the springs mayb a touch flatter..

i bit the bullet and went with 1230mm

and guts wen u say 60mm back ?? 60mm back from where ????

1235 is 60mm back from the full length of the spring i assumed he ment that ;)
