well yeh fords are crap! go the chev. I got a small block with some goodies in it in my gq at the moment, havent driven it yet tho. But i have heard alot fo people dissapointed in the 5L as it just doesnt have enuf berries for a heavy GQ. if u stroked it out ot 355 then you'd be happy.
I have to agree.
My new weekend warrior is a 350 powered GQ Wagon, i am stoked how it goes, plenty of power.
Drove a GQ EFI 5.0 ltr before i bought my Chev GQ and i was very disapointed how piss poor the power was. i do not think the 5.0 ltr has the power for a GQ wagon.

I have a 351 cleveland in a GQ and there are no problems keeping the dizzy dry, also the TB42 has the dizzy at the front. So what are you on about?
with the GQ tb42 and clevo, you will have cough's splutters and the like when you go through water and cover the dizzy in water ALOT quicker than a gq with a chev in it with the dizzy at the rear

the tb42 dizzy has o rings and a breather to stop water INTO the dizzy, a clevo has nothing.

OR you could go with an AU falcon windsor that hos NO dizzy at all, then just mount the coil pack high on the firewall or even inside the cab.
the AU engine also makes more power and torque then most of the holden 5L engines.

and with the price of stroker kits for them being so cheap there is easy power and torque to be make.
i absolutly H8 holden V8's. why would you sling a holden motor in anything, your so limited, when you chev it, its an quick/easy/cheap upgrade path from 265 to 572 and beyond... :D

Jes
You think you can't make those cubes with a ford engine?
Personly i don't why you'd bother using a dizzy on any V8 conversion.
changing to a waste spark coil pack setup is pretty simple.

chevs are not the be all and end all of V8s. at best that are an over rated boat anchor

why don't you turbo the 4.2 (or one like it that's not stuffed) it will cost you less and have more power than any of the motors that have been suggested and it will be in the part of the rev range that you want?

i was actually talking about how shit holden motors are, not fords.:)

you can make alot of cubes from a ford engine yes, but come-on, chevs have it all over ford in the area of displacement options and HP for $ versus reliability/performance/economy. i am impartial to both in their intended application, but for a 4wd conversion, you cant beat a chev.
as i said in prev post, i have both chev and ford V8's and have always owned both

Hi mate i had considered this.... But duel fuel turbo setups dont seem to work really well. petrol or dedicated gas do - but i want to retain my duel fuel capability.
By the time i source another motor, rebuild it (they all seem to have big km's - mine only has 180kms - i dont see many that low for sale - but i "may" need a new block) new head - and then i still have potetial for stuffng another head.

That was the main reason for steering away from that motor. I would have considered a xr6 turbo motor - except fo the duel fuel setup - they work well with gas injection - but that is much dearer to set up - plus the conversion costs.

When you guys are talking smll block chevs - i assume your talking about ls1 motors?

Cheers

Cun7s - You have done both 5l and ls1 conversions.... What did you think of the final results as well as the actual conversionand costs?

i wouldn't condemn your motor until you pull it apart. as for duel fuel turbo, mine ran fine on fuel without any computer mods and if you upgrade to vapour injection (about $1500) you will be able to tune it on gas. it still works out cheaper than an engine conversion.
